You hit the issue right on the head. Unless they were told (promised) something any hockey person would know you don't give up your Bantam AA year to play JV. The recruits had options they could have played Bantams at the highest level in their community, Go play at a lower Bantam level at North unless they choose to move there house. Or play JV or Varsity.
I think most hockey people out there would argue with not much push back that playing bantams is better than JV. Also those options for these bantams are not an option since they either choose or were told not to register for Bantams.
I am guessing that the recruits are considered higher end players with parents that have some knowledge of these options. I would find it hard to believe that a parent willing to be recruited would also leave to chance there sons future by not having all option open to them unless they were promised something so that they don't have to worry about it.
Also, I think the South boys will be just fine this year.
South will be fine for the next two years, no doubt. After that, depth of talent drops significantly. Rosemounters entering North program are good, not great. If they were eligible for Bantams, they would make Bantam AA significantly better, but wouldn't make them great. IMHO not a D1 talent in the group (maybe with maturity???) and you've got major egos in both kids and parents. Could be a wild ride for the program, if parents don't get what they want.
Still can't imagine who would get replaced in North's top 3 lines by a (promised) move-in unless that player was the caliber of a Johnson, Poehling, Enebak. It doesn't sound like that from opinions here and there are no new standouts at the preseason clinics.
South will struggle against solid competition. They have a great D core but will lack otherwise. Someone on this board thinks they will beat North. No chance that will happen. If the D has to score all the goals then who's helping the goalie? They will have a similar record to last year - beat the weaker teams, lose to the good teams, 50/50 on the average teams, and have some luck in a few games.

it will be interesting to see how the 11th and 12th grade parents of the cut players react. Maybe finally they will take a stand and say enough of the recruiting. We pay you a lot of money in all your clinics to develop players not just go find better ones.
No one is moving into North because of the program. The youth program right now is average at best. The 31-0 team is gone you can't ride that for ever. What would be the draw to going to North unless you were young a promised something at the high school level.
It is doubtful that North "promises" anyone anything other than the easiest possible route to the state tournament of any AA team. At most, the coaching staff probably doesn't dissuade anyone who is interested in coming from coming. Why would they? Having more players to choose from is in their best interest. Also, having more pockets to dip into is in their best interest. It is the parents who dream of little Johnny Superstar skating out to the blue line with his perfectly coiffed flow during pre-game intros who create all the drama when they discover little Johnny Superstar isn't quite the superstar they thought he was.

My son is a south metro junior, I'm guessing he's only lost to a LVN team once or twice in the last 6 years. And no, not Edina. FEdina.
