Mound Westonka
Heard something from a friend about the Mound Westonka team facing disciplinary action and possibly having to forfeit their game vs. Blake tonight, does anyone have any factual information regarding the situation? Not looking to start a rumor mill or anything, and if this gets locked, I understand. It seems to be legit, a lot of activity on Twitter about the situation, but I want to know the whole story.

I don't get it... The point is they were suspended from the game that ended their careers and all signs point to the suspension being a joke.GatorLand wrote:Wow.... Really sad that the kids could not play there last game of the year. I watched a few videos on you tube ,,, don't really see what would be so bad? As for the police coming to take a look and write up some ticket/fines, that is retarded. As for the teachers at the school ,,, give them a break.
It's not like they filmed it and ended it with the finger then walk off.

I saw the news clip. It was parents yelling at him, not the AD doing the yelling. It does sound like the school overreacted a bit, but I don't know all the details.paulsonj72 wrote:WCCO reported after the game tonight the AD was escorted out of the arena by police. A bit? The article must be missing a lot. Disorderly conduct? Even for a food fight that seems quite extreme.hockeydad wrote:I saw the news clip. I've heard of people being charged with disorderly conduct for participating in food fights. It's purpose is to be a deterrent for kids starting food fights.HShockeywatcher wrote:A bit? Doesn't matter if the suspensions were over-the-top wrong, now that the AD has become the victim instead of the players involved. If the verbal abuse warranted the police escort...not a good way for the hockey program as a whole to endear themselves to the AD/high school office/district school board.hockeydad wrote:I saw the news clip. Might not matter for the senior parents who were leaving the program, but for the underclassmen and their families? Good luck, boys.
Oh, and in case anyone else didn't have a clue what this "Harlem Shake" was before this blew up....here's the Eagan High School version (which had the blessing of the principal's office and was shown on the school's morning tv program).

Its probably not the Harlem Shake that got them...but rather the tossing of food around the cafeteria (if that occured). Me thinks some nerdy administrator walked in as they were doing the full "Shake" and mistook it for a foodfight and hit the panic button.
Regardless.....this is so trivial in the big picture that the MW administration blew it. Whatever happened to detention and helping janitors clean the school after hours?

Agreed. Getting police involved is very extreme. To me, this says way more about the administration at the school than anyone else.SWPrez wrote:Regardless.....this is so trivial in the big picture that the MW administration blew it. While I don't think yelling at the AD at a game is a very mature thing, after players were suspended for a playoff game, there is really was no good outcome that could come from this.

Watched this story on the news last night. The more and more that comes out about it, the more and more it looks so bad.
While the players couldn't go back in time and play their game, this is one of those times in life where someone simply needs to say "we were wrong" and move on. But that likely won't happen...

Even more so when you read the follow-up story and (finally) see some of the video....Gopher Blog wrote:Ridiculous.

Some key points:
* Looks like the AD had little or nothing to do with handing out suspensions and keeping the players out of the game. Blame the high school principal...and chide the idiotic parents at the rink who vented their frustrations at somebody who's hands were likely tied by his boss's actions.
* The police were called in after the incident took place, and issued citations only after a review of the video. There was no melee or riot that required their direct intervention.
* The dancing shown on the video posted with the Strib sorry doesn't show anyone “engaging in a riotlike activity and starting a mob.” To be fair, though, it was only one student's smart phone perspective, and may have been selectively edited.

School sanctioned and it rose to this from an over-reacting principal? Where was the faculty and was there any type of warning if it was starting to get out of hand? Two sides to the story but the video is harmless and a teacher monitoring the sanctioned filming should have been able to get things in order if it was getting wild. Sad way to end a high school career.
