Re: Elite league
It's a "go" as of now. Season starts in mid-September. No team schedules have been posted as of yet.
Re: Elite league
The Os Shootout is playing this weekend, this includes all Elite teams playing in advance of Elite season starting Sept 10, its full go!
Re: Elite league
Not the perfect place for this, but....
NAHA Labor Day tournament this weekend. Quite a bit smaller than normal. Only two local teams, one U19 and one U16. Lots of top players staying home.

Looking through those U19 rosters - Kirsten Simms (Wisconsin commit) has switched from Selects Academy to Honeybaked.Iceburg wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 9:30 pm Not the perfect place for this, but....

The travel ban from Canada has done a number on a couple of these teams' rosters. Selects has lost at least 2 D1 commits from Canada, for example.
No Gopher commits going east, even those from the Mission.
For a number of the MN girls going east, with O/S and YHH tourneys, showcases, and Elite League tryouts, this is their 7th weekend in a row of hockey. To be followed by 6 weekends in a row of Elite League. Followed by the high school season, hopefully. That's an insane workload. I wish all the best to these girls, and to those transporting them to and from the rinks.
Re: Elite league
I'm willing to bet there'll be a long break in November and December for theses girls. With the MIAC announcing today that they are pushing back all winter sports until January I think the MSHSL will do something very similar when they get around to it in October.
Re: Elite league
Re: NAHA rosters- the U19 JWC team is heavily weighted to Holy Family players, plus another couple from HF on the U16 roster- I count 8 ttl players from HF.
And lots of top players missing from 2022/2023 grad years.
No players from Edina, Wayzata, or Tonka, very little representation from Breck & Blake? Seems odd.
Really curious to see the elite league rosters once they are posted.

In addition to the 22s and 23s, there are no 21s!!Indy96 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 9:29 pm Re: NAHA rosters- the U19 JWC team is heavily weighted to Holy Family players, plus another couple from HF on the U16 roster- I count 8 ttl players from HF.

Re: Elite league
HF was 20-5 last year and I wouldn’t doubt they do better than that this year. They have established themselves as one of the most dominant programs in the MSHSSL and Winny’s Os programs.
Elite league there will be at least 9 players playing in Elite league, that’s the most out of any program in the state except for maybe Edina and Andover. They will absolutely make it to state this year.

Re: Elite league
Gentry will also likely have 9+ players in the Elite League. Those are probably the top 4.moosepaw wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 6:45 am HF was 20-5 last year and I wouldn’t doubt they do better than that this year. Re: Elite league
Yep, once Minnetonka is moved out of that section it's clear sailing for HF, but I thought that was not happening until next year?moosepaw wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 6:45 am HF was 20-5 last year and I wouldn’t doubt they do better than that this year. Re: Elite league
Our head coach said we will win state in 2 years, we will beat Minnetonka this year. We don’t play Minnetonka during the regular season but will see them in the section final.
Re: Elite league
That's what HF thought last season as well. The only problem was that Eden Prairie beat them 3-1 in the section semi's. Even though HF had 4 power plays in the first period they couldn't muster a goal until 40 seconds left in the game. BTW, EP then went on to lose 6-2 to Minnetonka in the section final. How about some Kool-Aid?
Re: Elite league
I know they out shot us 3-1 in that game but they lost their best player and we have our entire team back. We have more kids in Os and Elite league than either EP or Minnetonka. Future is bright.
Re: Elite league
Well if your head coach says it, it must be true!
Unfortunately, I don't think you are going to get to find out this year- we will be lucky if the girls have a full season, let alone playoffs & a state tourney. Fingers crossed I'm wrong on that!
Re: Elite league
You lost four of your top five scorers but you have your entire team back?
You were outshot 58-20 even though you had over 10 minutes of power play.
Even though EP lost their best player, Grace Kuipers, a junior, outscored HF.
The last I checked the number of players in Os doesn't define a program's measure of success.

Re: Elite league
We had a couple of kids come over that will help us as well.

Re: Elite league
HF with a 20-5 season because they played a class A schedule. Just because the coach puts together an OS team doesn't make them a state championship contender.

Re: Elite league
HF has a ton of young talent, their 2023's are very, very good and they added others (not sure of the names)
The schedule has been upgraded too - they're definitely going to have it a little tougher. Might not have the horses to get past Tonka this year, but they're doing everything right to make the program really good now and moving forward.
Agreed, an OS/Elite/NAHA selection does not put a skater in the Hall of Fame....not hard to see who's getting picked based on the prospects teams and Os doesn't allow for much movement in and out of the levels once they're set for weekend one.

Re: Elite league
The comments were that HF would be a state contender this year. I don't see it. They aren't building a good program, the coach is building a good team for when his daughter is a junior/senior. After that he could care less about the "program." Similar situation with Podein at BSM. Parent coaches are never how you build a good program.
Re: Elite league
I wouldn't put much stock in who is going East this year. At all. While they're all high quality players, these teams appear to be Dad (U16) and/or DadCoach (U19) selections. I highly doubt all the 2021 commits would have stayed home had they been invited.PhunnsieMcHockeyDad wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 2:05 pm HF has a ton of young talent, their 2023's are very, very good and they added others (not sure of the names)

Re: Elite league
I don't really know the coach, only met him once. Just know he has some nice players on his roster, especially in the 2023 group (my daughter is in that class but doesn't typically get the call to skate with that bunch).
I am happy to see (MSHSL willing) my daughter's team will be heading to Victoria for a game this season. The last time we were there with my son they had complimentary pizza for all fans between periods. Maybe that's skewing my take a little.

Re: Elite league
Good luck to all teams going to NAHA, we typically do very well!
