National Invitational Scholastic Showcase
December 5-7, 2008 ~ Jamestown Savings Bank Arena – Jamestown, NY

The Pa Hockey Foundation is sponsoring the National Invitational Scholastic Showcase event on December 5th - 7th, 2008 at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena in Jamestown, New York. With the 2008 State Championships in over 43 States across the United States being competed across the country, we are working toward a unique event featuring some of the top High School Hockey programs in the country for a three-day event during the 2008-2009 season. Your school is invited to apply for participation in a 16-24 team showcase of the top Varsity high school teams from across the United States. This event will host the best teams regionally and nationally to compete for the Governor’s Cup at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena in New York.

This Invitational event will be open to State Champions, Finalists, Semi-Finalists and Exempt Champions and we will attempt to limit to a total of four to six schools from any particular area [State or Region] to ensure that each school participating will face three out-of-state opponents in the preliminary round of competition. The tournament will be played on 2-3 rinks in prime time for this round robin event. The Pa Hockey Network plans to Webcast the event LIVE on the Pa Hockey www.pahockey.net Website including a pre-tournament preview, a Skills Competition, the Medal Round Semi-Finals and Governor’s Cup Final.

Invitations will be sent to State Champions, State Finalists and State Semi-Finalists from across the United States in June of 2008. If a school is interested in participating in this event, it should mail or e-mail a fully executed ‘Letter of Interest’ to the Pa Hockey Foundation NO LATER than June 30th, 2008. Schools will be notified of their acceptance and will be further given instructions, when the tournament field and waiting list are completed by June 30, 2008. In addition, we invite you to consider the
13th Annual Pa Hockey Scholastic Showcase at the Center Ice Arena in Delmont, Pennsylvania being held December 28-31, 2008, that will feature the top teams in Western Pennsylvania and additional schools regionally and nationally [Tournament Details are below].

Should you have any questions, please contact Jeff Mauro at 412-848-3750 [Cell Phone] E-Mail at JEFFMAURO@AOL.COM.

Why, so you can answer the age-old question of who's better, North Broward Prep or Hill-Murray?

I don't see why any of Minnesota's good teams would want to play. Leaving state to face the best competition from Massachusetts, New York, or Michigan is one thing...Jesuit College of the mighty Dallas Metroplex is another.

There is quality hockey played throughout the country now. The problem is that most of it isn't at the HS level like you see in Minnesota. Even in Wisconsin the top-end players often play Major Midget or Junior.

I'm going to be upfront here, no idea how amateur hockey outside of Minnesota works. It's not high school oriented? Or rather the bulk of the talent competes in some other organization other than High School?
If we didn't have conflict we'd all be pretty bored

City, HS hockey in Minnesota is a Varsity sport. While Florida is listed as having HS hockey, it is quite a bit different. Club only. No fans, no cheerleaders, no band.

Minnesota's community-based model is very different from the way hockey looks elsewhere. Even Detroit is club-based with some elite sponsored programs like Compuware and Honeybaked Ham attracting all the top players.

An average MN hockey team might have fun at this event, but an elite one is probably better served playing games in state. Holy Angels goes East to play top teams, which makes more sense.
