If you don't mind me adding another question to this thread, which of these championships would you not only rather watch, but which would you rather win?

Stanley Cup far and away would be the best to win.

It would be a toss-up between the NCAA's and the state tourney to watch. Depending on who is playing, I'd have to watch the NCAA's if Minnesota or North Dakota was playing. If it was two East teams, I would rather watch MN state tourney.

actually I'm not a gopher fan, but I agree, a NCAA (or a WCHA even) championship with anybody vs Minnesota is like watching anybody vs Edina or Bloomington Jefferson(*) in the state championships (think rebellion vs the Empire) only with more vulgar cheers and a higher blood alcohol contents in the student section (hopefully!?!)

(*Heck - the proper comparision may be UMN == AHA (because they recruit so well <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> ;-) )

Win... HS championship, if only as a player....
As a fan, it doesn't matter

And truth be told... I think the most exciting hockey I've seen year in and year out are the Section Championships.... Coming in 2nd in a Section is a helluva lot worse than 2nd in the State, and teams play like it!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... dabbt75 at: 3/11/05 10:14 am

Best to win High School Championship

Post by brickwall33 »

I would have to say many people believe the best championship to win would be a state tourney. It is the last time that you are playing hockey for fun and it does not seem like a job. You play with a group of kids you see every day at school, hang out with on the weekends and play in front of 18,000 people as a teenager. It becomes a lot more special. I mean even winning the chance to go to state is a unreal event in life. Many people have said that if they could play one more game at any level it would be a high school game. Playing in the State Tourney and winning it tops all others.

As a person that has not had the opportunity to play in any of these i do have a good story. A few years back as a senior Neal Broten, came into our locker room to give a speech. He told us that his time playing hockey in high school was his most fun. This is a guy who won the Hobey Baker, a NCAA championship, a Stanley Cup, and of course won on Olympic gold medal on the best American sport moment ever. To hear a guy of his degree say that really puts it into perspective. He said this is the only time that you get to play with your best friends.

Without a doubt...the HS state tourney! I've played on enough teams to know that the best experience was playing with my childhood friends in the state tournament on our hometown varsity team. That's why numerous years later we all still have that weekend in March blocked off to see if the boys can bring home the title!

High school is probably to best to win, or more likely, the best to even play in. As a kid playing regular season games where its not to packed, goign up to 18,000 for AA and about 6,500 for A is such a great experience where every kid wants because they are playing for their school, friends, themselves, and parent, not for money as professionals are.

Toss up between college and high school state, but id pick high school.

In the last post, the toss-up was meant for watching the games since the best one to win is obviuosly High School

NCAA Championship and State Tournement tied...I love watching and listening to the fans of the teams...and the fan sections are usually crazy (a lot more in college)...which makes the game a lot more fun to watch...I hate the NHL because wherever the game is being played, thats what the cheers are for (IF ANY AT ALL) and thats who has the majority of the fans...but for the state and NCAA tournements the fans are a lot more equal...with battle chants against each other...But based on the actual level of play...i would also have to say it depends on whose playing...

Take it from me(if you wish), the best is going to the state with your friends from your neighborhood. When ever you get together the stories are as vivid as ever. In college you very seldom get together with the core group. In high school it lasts forever.

Stay in school, play with your friends, you only get to do it once!

the reason you play hockey is to make it to the nhl. how would that not be the best to win? if i had tickets to watch either hs state, ncaa or nhl i would for sure chose stanley cup, because the is no better hockey.

I don't play hockey to make it to the NHL, I play it because I love the sport. In fact, I dislike the NHL, it's a horrible league and should be put to rest. That is unless they get a new commissioner, new rules, less teams, less foreigners.

almost boring to watch, it is. You couldn't pay me to watch a regular season game, the players simply don't try. Plus, why would you want to watch the Wild trap the whole game and be happy with a 1-1 tie. No thanks, I'll pass. The playoffs are a little better because it's more intense and the players start to try, but by then it a little too late for me.
AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

I have watched more HS hockey this year than ever and I'm comming around to thinking that I really didnt miss the
Wild this year. Kodiak's right, the trap (nhl style) is really boring. Even saw it in the World Hockey Tournament in September and it was boring there too. If I re-up for nhl tickets, some price negotiations (however futile) will be in order. If for no other reason than to just send my small message.

just to prove to how much I don't like the Wild's trap. My family has season tickets, I went to many games the first year they were around. But last year, I boycotted every game. My dad tried to convince me to go to a game with him many times, but I couldn't subject myself to that kind of torture watching a trap to a 1-1 tie<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">
AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!

What is this NHL thingy that you guys are talking about? Who is Lord Stanley, anyway? And why would anybody want his cup? Is it filled with free beverages or something? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

High School Hockey here in Minnesota is nearly impossible to top. The Gophers are usually a Minnesota All-Star team, so I do enjoy watching them and a few other WCHA teams that employ rosters filled with Minnesota boys quite a bit as well. The only time I miss the NHL is at 2:00AM on Saturday night/Sunday morning when there isn't a rerun game on ESPN2 to fall asleep to.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b">

I'd rather win the State Tourney.

Stanley Cup? NHL

Post by hockeyiscool »

Yeah I can't say I don't miss the NHL but High School hockey is way better anyway. If I could watch any sporting event I would watch a section semifinal or section championship game in Minnesota. Two teams playing their hearts out with their seson/careers on the line. Teams don't play as hard as that in the first two games at state.

*NHL-don't you guys miss seeing the D thread the needle on a breakaway pass to a forward and the whole crowd rises to their feet only to have the whistle blown for making a two line pass. Come on NHL figure it out get rid of these meaningless rules.
