Wasn't DL

Post by Renegade Ram »

Roseau and Warroad looked fine, in fact I was surprised at Warroad's quickness. Didn't get the chance to see TRF so I can't give an opinion. For those tooting the DL horn earlier in 8A I just don't see it. Crookston as my darkhorse as I've called them maybe they should be called the "Black Pony" versus the "Black Stallion". Shakopee I thought would look better but didn't and Proctor was not real good at all. Fair enough. What did others see.

Warroad will have 2 "Decent" lines and some trouble on D. The whole team will have to play a defensive style similar to Totino Grace last year in order to make a splash come february/March. Aaron Marvin is by far the leader of the team this year. J.P boucha looked fairly decent. Granted it was just a scrimmage and A and B teams were mixed around I think Warroad will be extremely lucky to get out of the Section this year.

I had a chance to watch 3 of our scrimmages this weekend. Friday night they played Shakopee and Proctor. Pretty much had their way with them two teams. Saturday evening was a little rougher. Red River played them a little tighter and nobody was as crisp as previous games. Could be fatigue, or my guess just ran into a better team. This year will be the year to see what kind of coaches fermoyle/hasbargen are. My little sister could have won with last years team. I wish them the best of luck

WarroadWarrior i have no idea what you are talking about DL dominated Warroad for 40 minutes allowing them to less than 5 shots on net and peppering your goalie for easily over 25, I was in the stands for most of the games in Warroad this weekend and Roseau was handsdown the best team their this weekend with in my opinion DL in a close second.
Lake of the Woods,PR, and Little Falls are very weak this year.

scrimmages

Post by bear11 »

I was in both LOW and Warroad this weekend. I think everyone had their moments. It all depends on how many kids each team brought with. I know the Grand Forks schools have made their cuts and brought basically their top 4-5 lines. They have also been skating together for one more week then the Minnesota teams. I saw Grand Forks Red River dominate Crookston- I saw Thief River Falls handle Grand Forks Red River fairly easily and I saw Red River edge Warroad. I know some teams brought a mess of people - I was told Thief River Falls played only 1 varsity line per scrimmage and I also was told Warroad had two seperate teams. Everyone does things differant. The only thing I can say is it is good to watch high school hockey again

Youngblood. I never watched the DL game. I only gave you my opinion of the games I watched. And i agree with you if you didn't finish reading my post, when they played some decent teams it was really difficult for them to start anything. When i say "decent" in regards to their lines I consider it one step below "ok" for example they had 2 really good lines and 1 ok line. this year the 2 top lines are "decent" i don't know how to put it any other way. Marvin's line will hold its own i belive. he'll have to step up and be a huge leader this year.

WOW - Really, Truly - DL?

Post by Renegade Ram »

Tell you what that was a version of the Warroad JV team that played DL Saturday morning. It was the varsity goalie with the number 5 & 6 varsity defensemen and the fourth line varsity with the rest being JV players - basically the bubble guys. Now hockeystarlet29 with the new name your just not getting it. DL as a close second.....not a chance. The comment by the Warrior kids that played them was if that's their varsity they're in trouble, deep.

Renegade my question to you is then why did DL play your rams straight up and don't try and tell my it was their JV team because Roseau was not missing one player in that game.

Not sure where you are coming from but if you think that DL played Roseau even up you are nuts. DL scored the first goal but after that it was all Roseau.
Ram Hockey

youngblood...i'm guessing you play for DL and you have got a big head on your shoulders. Dl did not play roseau straight up and even if they did, they got dominated. Simple as that, no more comments. Slow your role until you have facts about what you are saying.

No i am not a Dl player for your information i am a section 8 fan, i'm not saying that DL is the best team in section 8 all i'm trying to say is that in warroad some teams didn't look very good being it their jv or not and some teams IN MY OPINION did. And the last thing i need to say on this post is if these teams are so good why do they hold back with there jv?

It's called EVALUATION.

Lots of new faces for some of these teams to consider. I know there were some players nicked up on a couple of teams. But as a "host" team like Roseau, Warroad and LOW they have the luxury of playing everybody and giving everybody an opportunity over the schools that are traveling or have already made their minds up. In some cases that's all they have. The 40 minutes is meaningless from an outcome viewpoint so why "show your hand" to an opponent on your schedule when you don't have to.

scrimmages

Post by riverman »

most coaches play alot of the jv as they are trying to test kids that are on the bubble. put them in game situations and see how they respond. Most are trying to tweek thier 3rd and 4th lines.

if a coach has his lines picked and the team is not strong that is a good time to run with thier reg lines giving them experience together and if they are playing others not so good lines it can give a mediocre team a boost of confidence heading into the season.

regardless one should just consider these scrimages and not games.
