Section 7 played section 6 first, and they beat them 4-3. Then they played Wisconsin in the semis. They beat them 3-0. Then they played ND in the ship. They beat them 3-1.

Section 7 controlled every game. Best hockey they've played all fall.

Section 7A/7AA

Post by BobbyOrrfan »

No surprise here...Section 7 had a core group of players who have been winning tournaments since Pee Wees...they were well coached, played strong defensive hockey and had great goaltending...I think some other teams were better offensively and had as much overall talent...but they were the best TEAM.

Congratulaions to section 7 on the champy. Their first game with section 6 was a close game after the first 8 minutes of the first period as section 6 gave up 4 quick ones and the score was 4 to 1 in favor of 7 after the 1st period, with a goalie change for 6. 6 won the second period 2 to 0 and the third period was filled with some good up and down action and nobody scored in the third.

There were some good games over the weekend and some suprises for some of the higher seeds going into the tourney this weekend. Not sure if section 7 was the best overall team, but they were this weekend when it counted.

Section 1A/1AA was the number one seed but lost two close games to Section 3AA/2A 4-2, And Section 4A/4AA 3-1 with an empty netter.

We played very well for parts of each game.

We out shot Section 4A 35 to 21 but they scored on two hard working shifts halfway thru the third period to tie and go ahead. Our guys struggled to score outshooting both teams pretty onesidedly but no results. Our Forwards scored two of our 3 goals.

The weekend before we put up 14 goals against a good North Dakota squad but we lost the services of Tim Kirby Austin D and Alex Lair Albert Lea defensmen that were real leaders for our squad. I think we had two ties and one loss in the nine games that Kirby played D.

We finished with a record of 12-9-2...

We were 1st place in Conference with a record of 9-2-0.

We had a team that could beat anyone when the puck would find the net. I think we were only outplayed a few periods...
Hockey Nut in So. MN

Sioux Fan, thanks for the update on your section but I think the poster was looking to hear about the West Metro section.

Here's what I know: Sioux Fan's team beat West Metro handily when the two teams met in Kasson (8-1 or something like that). West Metro was close to the last seed, if not the last seed, going into the tourney this past weekend. They lost their first game Friday night, won their Saturday game and I don't know how they came out in their final game. After all of the discussion and debate about West Metro, the results speak clearly...West Metro struggled most of the time, but did pull off some wins.

The handling of this section was earmarked for disaster and frankly the kids did better than that; at least those who were committed. As to whether or not there was a "standout" on West Metro, I defer that to someone who followed all of the teams in Elite II more closely.

Puckhead, you almost got it right. The West Metro team did loose to 1A1AA (5-1) with eleven skaters and also beat them (3-2) with twelve skaters. They were seeded 10th out of 12 teams. I don't think you can say that they struggled most of the time being that there was only three teams with fewer loses but they did only win five games.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... lueline at: 11/7/05 5:58 pm

warrrior4life, I think you are right. I think if they would have had more of a commitment from there players they possibly could have done better.

You guys were right about section 7 not haveing much talent. They had like 20 skaters try out. One kid on the team didnt even have to try out because there werent enough players so the coaches just called him and asked him to be on the team. He really hurt the team too.
Section 7 just really played like a team together

Section 7's two goaltenders were very good and I think the rest of the kids found a way to score some goals. Goaltending and a few timely goals will win a lot of Hockey games...

I saw the game we played them in St. Cloud their goalie was outstanding. I watched them tie North Dakota and the Leis boy was fantastic. Goaltending wins Hockey games period.

Here is a nice article off of the Lake State website about one of our former goalies.

NCHA

Goaltender of the Week

Jeff Jakaitis, LSSU Jakaitis is named CCHA Goaltender of the Week
Rainville and Schwab are among CCHA notables

Nov. 7, 2005

FARMINGTON HILLS - Lake Superior State junior goaltender Jeff Jakaitis was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week after stopping 49 of 50 shots to help LSSU beat Western Michigan 10-0 and 3-1 for its first CCHA sweep since 2000.

Jakaitis has the league's third-best goals-against average of 1.83. My hats off to the goaltenders from Section 7 and the rest of the team. Talent is a very bad
word for a hockey player. Hard work and dedication to the team are what matters. That describes this Jakaitis kid.

And oh yes a big save here and there doesn't hurt.

Hockey Nut in So. MN
