NHL Back Soon

Post by Jesrober »

I stummbled across this today it sounds like the NHL is pretty close to a deal maybe by the end of the week. Although it is my least favorite form of hockey it would be nice to see a place for some of the better players to go eventually. They are trying to make some new rules in the nhl some sound alright like a shootout instead of a tie but some are just crazy like getting rid of the blue line. Check it out for yourselfs its.NHL rule changes

NHL sides reportedly agree on salary cap
Issue has been biggest stumbling block in labor talks

Reuters
Updated: 4:23 p.m. ET June 8, 2005

TORONTO - The two sides in the NHL lockout have agreed on a salary-cap system, eliminating the biggest stumbling block to the resumption of play next season, a Canadian newspaper reported on its website Wednesday.

Although details of the proposed agreement were not released Wednesday, the Globe and Mail reported that a source close to the owners said there would be a team-by-team salary cap, based on a percentage of the revenue of each franchise.

The league has previously demanded that the cap be 54 percent of a team’s revenue.

However, this does not mean that an overall deal on the lockout is imminent. Rules Changes

Post by hockey1417 »

If they changes the rules like they are talking about I will not watch the NHL anymore. Just keep the game the same way as it has been for 100 years.

Do you think that if these rules are made in the NHL they will eventually change other leagues such as high school hockey to the same rules.

Some of the other major sports have adjusted their rules at times when their sport needed a boost. Particularly football and basketball. Why should hockey be any different? Today's players are bigger, strong and faster than what they were many decades ago. It makes sense to make a few adjustments at times to improve the overall game. Otherwise we will be stuck with a game that looks like soccer on ice. Boring!

eliminating the two line pass, coupled with obstruction enforcement, I think is the simplest rule change for the NHL to improve the game.

I wouldn't move to the blue line/red line rule as described (sort of like basketball if you're old enough to remember the rules for 'small courts' for 10 seconds and over/back), although I would consider moving the blue line out 3-5'

Goalie equipment is a simple rule to enforce... just changing pad sizes of the blocker and shin pads.

I think you should be able to let the goalie handle the puck... just make it a simple rule... if the goalie is out of the crease and handling the puck.... he can be checked off the puck. (I've never understood why we put dresses on goalies [apologies to Jack Lambert])

bdabbt75,
I agree with you but suspect the genious Bettman to screw things up mightly with some of his hair brained ideas. You are spot on with regards to eliminating the two line and enforcing the obstruction. Make the millionaires skate their shift that way we will see guys like Mike Crowley rather than goons like Hatcher on the ice.

I agree with Finn's comments and add that even baseball has made rule changes(the DH) and mound dimension changes when the situation called for it.

But I dont know about eliminating the blue line once the puck gets in. Maybe inserting the "tag up" rule would be a better idea for that part of the game.

Agree with bud. The red line (2 line pass)should be eliminated except for icing purposes.

What the NHL really needs is a bigger sheet of ice. It looks really crowded out there ( At least as I remember it). But unfortunately there is no practical way to get that done.
