can i ask where everyone's from? hah i'm not sure if this is allowed or not, so if it's not then just pretend i didn't post this alright? thanks!

Re: location
It's alright; this has happened a couple times. Hopefully people are more forthcoming.

I'm from Bloomington (big Jefferson fan, my brother is on the team), though I currently go to school at Duke in Durham, NC. Thus my constantly being on here: this is by far the best place to get a feel on how things are going in the world of high school hockey.

Re: location
I can verify Petey's constantly on here.

I'm in Blaine cheering mostly for Hill-Murray and a few other north metro teams.

bona fides
moved to minnesota (st cloud) in the late 70's... now live near rochester. never played the game in an organized manner, other than father son games when my boys were squirts.

Re: bona fides
We really haven't gotten many responses, guys, including from the fella who started this thread. C'mon now! We're all friends here, let's get some idea of where everyone is from and who they support.

Re: bona fides
Althgough I am new on here, I'm fine telling everyone I also come from Bloomington. Petey, any relation to #7 for JHS? I Don't want to spill his name but if you are related, you will know what i mean?

Allegiances
I live in St.Paul, I'm originally from Bemidji and Little Falls. Grew up watching the Lumberjacks with the Sargent brothers, then moved to Little Falls, which had no high school hockey. Watched the tourney regularly, but didn't get back into HS hockey till last year when I dragged my boys to a game as something to do in the middle of winter.

Now I'm hooked again, but I can't say I have strong allegiances to any team. My favorite teams this year are probably Roseville, because I live right next to Roseville plus I like the team and Holy Angels, because I really like the way that team plays. If Bemidji or Little Falls were closer, I'd follow them too.

I'm from warroad and couldn't be prouder. Maybe i brag warroad up a bit too much, but i figure since everyone out there's hatin on it, i might as well talk em up a little. Really, I'm just a fan of hockey in general, but I think there's a lot to be said about small-town hockey. today everyone gets caught up in powerhouse city teams and forgets about where hockey originated and how all of its tradition began. I'm not saying that warroad has the most hockey tradition of minnesota (that's a whole other thread entirely, and if you want to discuss it then look up centerman, he'll give you an earful) but i am saying that small towns are at the heart of hockey.

Re: location
thief river falls. the big t name comes from the old trf jerseys which had a "big" T in the middle and smaller r and f. previous hang out was the twin cities, after being here several years now i love small town hockey. unlike the cities everyone in a small town knows the team, good most times not so good when things aren't going so great. like now. 0-4-1 start. lost to blake last night 3-2.

Born in Duluth but grew up around Cloquet, always loved watching the game but never got to play until after college. I went to the U ( GO Gophers). Once I started playing I couldnt get away from the game, started coaching about 12 years ago and have loved watching the kids I have coached move up and on. Coaching in the summer has given me an opportunity to coach alot of different kids so I am not a one team guy but I do have an interest in watching Cloquet, Owatonna, Lourdes, Mayo, Albert Lea, Stillwater, Red Wing. Just love to watch the high school game. I recently moved out of state so I only get to a few games so I try and pick the good matchup of the week and make the trip.

Roseville
I live in roseville and grew up watching the great rivalries between MV,KELLOGG,RAMSEY( of course these 2 areas are now combined into roseville) and Irondale. Watched them all from the beutow brothers thru McClannahan and Bjugstad. I love the teams in the Suburban east. Love watching the Bostrom boys from MV they remind of the throwback days when hockey sense and passing were more a part of the game.

I have lived in Grand Rapids since july '89. I graduated from GRHS in 1999. When I first moved here from McGregor I was 8 years old and really got into hockey when Rapids was in the state tourney the first two years I watched them. I never played in the programs, just at the outdoor rinks for fun. So anything I've learned about hockey is just from watching the sport and reading books on it once in a while.

Re: location
Yeah, corber, your brother is on the team, and if he is who I can only assume he is, this season rests on his shoulders. If he has a good year, they'll win the whole thing. And, from watching him play as you guys grew up, I've got the utmost faith that he'll do it.

And yes, Auggie, we are related; he's my younger brother (which I've been very forthright about, though I know you're new here).

Re: location
Grew up in tiny Deer River, Minnesota played organized hockey on every outdoor rink in that region of Itasca county. (Nashwauk-Keewatin, Hibbing, Pengilly, Clover Dale, Taconite, Coleraine, LaPrarie, Cohasset, Murphy, Southwest, Old St. Joes rink, Marble, Forest Lake, Bemidji, Brainerd). Had to quit playing organized at age 13 due to town dropping the program. Have lived in Woodbury, Minnesota where I must say they still play outdoor hockey every Saturday and Sunday at the outdoor rinks. Now back in Grand Rapids and loving it. I agree with the fellow from Warroad, small town hockey is still the best. The metro teams get all the ink and they have great players and great teams, but I still love small town hockey, it is part of my roots and I am darn glad to be back watching my boys go through the Rapids program.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... =jls81>JLS 81 at: 12/7/02 6:59:00 pm

I'm originally from West St. Paul. Graduated from Brady High School (now closed) in 1978 and the "U of M" in 1983. Life long hockey fan. Used to pull for Sibley and SSP during their glory days. I just recently moved about 7 miles south of Hastings; man, is it quiet down here!

As regards my passion for high school hockey, let's just say my wife now calls the sectionals "Advent", and the State Tournament "Holy Week". <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

I grew up in Int'l Falls, though I never played (I was a wrestler who didn't hunt or fish ... if you don't hunt/fish/play hockey why live up there!?) and graduated in 1978. I enjoyed hockey in HS (my best friends played), lost track of it in college (I went out west), and got back into it when my son started to play in the Elk River system - he's now a varisity player as a soph. I like this message board to hear the banter and gain some insight.
