Coaches at the Elite League that's who. Kids from the south don't get a fair shake. Last year Alex Kangas was cut, he was the #3 overall draft pick in the USHL. They took Moorheads JV goalie instead. If you really think all star teams are picked soley by talent you're wrong. Kids fall through the cracks and some like Kangas and Kirby are just blatant omissions.

thank you goldy313 there was no way i could win this disagreement on my own...and theres no way you can sit there and say kangas just wasnt good enough cause youve probably seen him play but you probably havent seen kirby so you just dont understand the situation...you almost gotta be from the south to understand what its like...tough to get any recognition...you almost hafta be one of the teams to go to the state tourny for anyone to even know your name...

-Petersen-

Kirby

Post by swatsy28 »

He doesn't have a hockey head?!?!? are u kidding me, thats one of the dumbest things i have ever heard on this board, watch him play, he always knows where to be on the ice. Come watch him play and then tell me he doesn't have a mind for the game.

I have seen what Tim Kirby can do..and Souix Fan can verify this. Tim didnt play like the first 7 games for that section 1 elite 2 team. they had a losing record i think. Tim comes and plays for them and they go on a 10 game winning streak!!!!!!!! I would most definately say thats called being a game changing player. He made that whole team better cuz of the way he sees the ice and the things he can do with the puck. In fact the his first game back against the Blaine/Osseo section (not sure which one that is) he had 10 good scoring opportunities himself and set up numerous other ones. One huge reason he doesnt get as much pub is because of Mr. Canzanello at Mayo. Now Canzy is a fine player, but is nowhere near the all around player that Kirby is. If Canzy would play D he would far and away be the best player down here but he doesnt. I will state it here right now......Tim Kirby is this years Alex Kangas. Just like Kangas he can play in the USHL. And just like Kangas will be a D1 hockey player maybe even more after that. Oh by the way....anyone heard of Brent Cummings.....I think its to compare Tim to him........and he only is a top 4 D for Minnesota St. Mankato right now.

On a Kangas note, with hindsight being 20/20, he could be the most embarrassing non-pick ever. His stock rises every time he is on the ice.

its hard to compare what kirby did when he helped the elite 2 team when he showed up. of course he helped that team but the teams are weaker in talent. lets compare apples to apples. some players where gone on the elite 1 teams and it didnt hurt there play. of course kirby is going to help the elite 2 team. it just goes to show you he is on the bubble between the elite 1 and the elite 2 teams. because if he was to sub for a player on elite 1 he would not stand out as an all-star player. not many elite 1 players stood out when you have four lines deep and two goalies. yes some players on elite 1 had a good game here and there but nobody was the all-star. kirby i hope you have a good year and make it to the next level. front door or back door. also its a good lesson for all players on the elite 2 teams just bacause you made the elite 2 team as a jr does not mean you are on the elite 1 team as a sr.

Kirby: Elite 1

Post by swatsy28 »

HOT SHOT, kirby not making elite 1 as a senior is very simple, he didnt try out! It's hard to make a team when you don't try out. He didnt try out for Elite 2 either, but the coach knew his stuff and asked him to join the team and it worked out well. So dont go saying that "just because you make elite 2 as a junior doesnt mean youll make elite 1 as a senior", at least not in relation to kirby, until u know all the facts

the elite 1 is all year try out. the top 80 players are sent letters and dont have to try out. then the other 35 spots are sent out by letter to be invited to try out. I think most of this info is correct? you can find it on there web site. you are rated by strenght of schedule , hussle, stats, coaches input. not just one or two try outs. sorry to here he didnt try out if he got the letter. I was told his parents didnt want to travel. If this is true then the kid maybe missed his golden chance.

Missed his golden chance? I don't think so, he is already on a couple of junior team radar's and I know of a D1 team that has him on their list. The question will be whether he chooses baseball or hockey.

this D1 list you say. Is it the list that has about 100 other players on it or the list that says sign on the dotted line? kirby will have no problem playing jrs like the nahl teams. good luck to him if we see him in the ushl.

I dont think you have seen Kirby play HOTSHOT. If he were a bubble Elite 1 player i really dont think he would have been by far the most dominate player on that team. And of course Kirby wouldnt stand out in Elite 1. Those are the best players in the state. Now as I said before Kirby is this years Kangas. He will fly under the radar for most people in Minnesota, but if Austin makes the state tourney (which there is a pretty good chance of) he will go on to be on everyone's radar. It also doesnt help when Canzanello is at Mayo and is getting hyped as the greatest thing since sliced bread. And I am comparing apples to apples. Kirby would have been on an Elite 1 team.

yes i have seen him play in the youth and at the advance 17 try outs. he made the first cut 160 players 8 teams tournament. he did not stand out. I was there. he was not there the next weekend for the final 51. out of the final 51 they picked the top 20 roster. you could just see with each cut how the talented players stood out. take albert lea's team from last year. two state trips and so far nobody has a big offer. state trip does not guarentee you a job in the hockey world. the albert lea kids are in the nahl. ushl is like elite 1 and nahl is like elite 2. you do the math on that one. they also look at the strength of your schedule. now if the southern teams were beating up on the stronger teams then there stats would stand out more. this is the same path austin is taking in class a. look at albert lea for example. some players had 60 to 80 points finished in the top 5 in state rankings and went to state. alot of the other players on that list got on with D1 and ushl teams.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... t@mnhs>HOT SHOT at: 12/5/05 1:20 am

You say ALOT of kid's on that list got D1 offer's or are in the USHL? Name 'em. ALOT is inferring a large number. I am not sure you are seeing enough of the hockey world. Don't compare the USHL and NAHL to Elite I, II. The NAHL is a top Junior A league with tier 2 status. The qualification's behind tier 1 are slightly different but are more of a Canadien flavor, ie: you must have a certain amount of 16 year old's on a team and some other slight differences. People familiar with both leagues will tell you that the top NAHL team's are right on par with USHL team's. What are you considering a BIG offer? The AL kid's are doing just fine and that was a huge achievement putting 5 kid's in post high school hockey. Don't diminish it because your kid left. He is doing fine where he is at.

go to the web site www.hselitehockey.com and click on the college list. alot of these kids have signed contracts with D1 schools and will play a year first in the ushl. they dont have them play a year in the nahl . you can sugar coat things all you want. one player from albert lea had the best chance at the ushl but didnt make the cut. he is now in the nahl. the other player had a D3 looking at him but he didnt have the grades he is in the nahl. a player from austin played for albert lea to get to state and is in the nahl. Iam not saying this is a bad thing but so far they dont have the big job offers. also iam not saying that my kid will get the big job offer either. but i dont sugar coat things either. play hard or go home.

I dont know why you keep bringing up my kid. he has no regrets. the move has made him a better player. ask your kid in about 4 years if he had the chance to play metro hockey or play in the south . I bet he would say pack my bags dad. you think iam against you but iam not. I just try to stay in the reality of things. please dont have tunnel vision there are other towns than your own in this hockey world. just relax and have fun.
