Re: Re one little mistake

If you guys read closely, Petey is referring to AHA as having a soft section, not H-M.

Petey and the rest...

This argument happens every year, and there always seems to be two distinct discussions. First being the smack talking by the younger kids, which I tend to ignore completely. Second is the more serious discussion. My allegiance to Hill is well known and when I went to school there we were quite happ...

Re: Duluth East's Coach Randolph fired

It is covered in the Pioneer Press today. They asked himt o retire and he said no, so they gave him the boot. Obviously there is more to this story then we know, because no one just fires a coach with the storied history that Randolph has produced. Can you shed any light on what the deal was Lee? I'...

Re: re: moments (sparlimb)

Fred Hennen was a darn good goalie though. He was solid the entire year for Hill-Murray and I don't recall any of those three goals really being his fault. They were all nifty two-on-one passes that showed Moorhead was more talented. Dave Gilbert who replaced Hennen in nets was a feel good story as ...

Re: Moments

My favorite was 1983 and my dad took me to a tourney game and it happened to be the championship. I had no allegiance to either team so I picked Hill to cheer for and he picked Burnsville. Hill went home with an undefeated season and a state championship. I remember to this day thinking how excited ...

Re: Anthony Lapanta

Been listening to him doing the local cable broadcasts of the section 3 games for years. Although for some reason, Directv in Blaine doesn't get those anymore. He always did a good job on games he couldn't have been paid more then $50 to announce. Now the guys he was stuck with were another thing al...

Re: Warroard vs Edina

Keep in mind, I too was cheering for Warroad, but the game-tying goal in that Edina game was offsides by 6 feet. An Edina defenseman throws the puck out of the zone and it hits a Warroad guy and pops back in, and Warroad never cleared the zone. Warroad got a mini two on one and scored their only goa...

Re: Ch 4 vs Ch 9

WCCO did such a classic job televising the tournament. The in-school videos were a little cheesy, but fun when I was in High School. The pre-tournament special they always did, the half hour state final preview they did. They went the whole nine yards. Biggest problem now is any channel will have to...

HM, CDH and related topics (rambling)

Hill played them in 2001, and CDH won 4-2. I think I blanked that entire season from my memory banks as it was a lost cause. They played them in 1994-1995 and before that was 1989-1990. My point being that H-M plays Duluth East usually twice a year and maybe a third time if they meet at state. It's ...

Re: st paul city conference

One thing that is too bad is that H-M and Cretin got seperated back in the late 80's. They are natural rivals, both being Catholic, and even the private school haters probably don't mind seeing them beat up on each other. While H-M would probably not do well in most sports against Cretin, it wasn't ...

Re: Best program ever?

How can you judge best program ever? You would have to set credible types of criteria. We know who has the most championships. We know who has the most appearances. But could you have South St. Paul in your list? I don't see why not, they have been to the tournament throughout it's history, probably...

Re: Minnesota Hockey History

My understanding is there was a private school tournament for all the private schools for some number of years. I know Hill won that in 1970 and 1972, but I don't know who else did or how long that tournament was held. Someone else?

Hill's first year in the MSHSL was 1974-1975 season. They t...

Re: Minnesota Hockey History

Just read something where it said Hill played in 7 state championship games from 1980-1993 (14 Seasons). Unfortunately they are a combined 2-5 in those games, although still 2 better then SSP and WBL combined. Anyway, what other teams have done equally as well? Bloomington Jefferson has to be close ...

Re: Greatest comebacks in Sectional/State history

Was anyone at the 1992 Section 3 semi-final between Hill-Murray and St. Paul Johnson? To this day that was still the greatest single game of High School Hockey I have ever witnessed. The Coliseum was more packed for that game than any other game I've seen there, even section finals. I showed up 20 m...

Re: Greatest comebacks in Sectional/State history

I don't know if anyone was at this game, I just remember them talking about it on WCCO's coverage of the tournament in 1988. But in the Section 2 finals, Cretin Derham-Hall played South St. Paul in a very close game. And SSP scored the go ahead goal with something like 12 seconds remaining in the th...

Re: Greatest comebacks in Sectional/State history

In the 1991 section 3 tournament, Hill-Murray was playing Forest Lake. At the time, HM was something like 17-0 all time against Forest Lake, and Forest Lake was somewhere around 4-17 on the year. The game went along as script with HM pulling out to a 5-0 lead in the third period. Then something weir...
