Re: Out State Recruitment -- STA this year and going forward
I'm amazed that this is new info to people. I knew about this before the season started. Doesn't anybody look at Elite Prospects? I mean, how does a player go from east coast, to Omaha, and then magically end up in Minnesota his senior season? Shouldn't that be enough reason to ask a few questions? ...

Re: Out State Recruitment -- STA this year and going forward
I wondered how long it was going to take for this to come up. Should have been handled before Sections even started. Should have been handled before the season started. The big thing that gets lost in this sometimes, don't blame the kids. It's the coaches, administrators, and the parents that allow ...

Re: Ideas that should be brought to the Minnesota Hockey Board
If touch up just isn’t reasonable, then I suggest they at least go back to where play is not stopped unless the offending team touches the puck in the offensive zone. This gives the advantage to the puck possession team and keeps play moving. Stopping play immediately when the puck crosses the line...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Let's hypothetically say that is a possibility, a H-M or AHA, or BSM, etc. youth program, a simple rule would be those programs are restricted to kids that go to Catholic grade schools/Jr High. It's not that crazy as Fargo has the Fargo Angels program and there are many cities across the country tha...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
My issue is the kids caught up in the middle of these association politics simply because they go to school someplace different (often times it is the parent's choice in where they go to school too, beyond the kid's control).

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Yes, so under this rule you would basically have to remove them from the top team and replace them, which would be pretty weird for all involved. It's not necessary. The kid would already attend the Private if he has the option to try out for them, so just don't take them on the top team in the fir...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Has anyone ever seen an association actually put this down in writing and want it to be part of their bylaws? This is from the District 2 December meeting notes: Open Forum Discussion: Stillwater wondering if there’s a rule to prevent them from having players that tryout for high school teams not a...

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting
Let's just find a way to force an EGF/Central/Red River co-op. That's what, 2600 students. Let em compete in AA. Then this problem is solved. 😉 Until they win state, which they eventually would, then you'd complain about out of state players winning a championship. Combine the Aviators with the Gre...

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting
EGF is not exactly a fair comparison. For a player to transfer from ND the family must follow transfer rules, in Panzers case the family moved physically to EGF. How often do you think that's going to happen? It was my understanding the Panzer relocated not because you was unhappy with Grand Forks ...

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting
"I am continually baffled that Class A teams are allowed to play an essentially Class AA schedule all year then drop down to A for playoffs. To me, that’s where we need to focus the crosshairs to force change. Limit the number of games Class A can play AA and go from there." This is one si...

Re: A teams playing AA at youth levels
I remember when the AA/A split happened at the youth levels. The spin at the time was that there was no split, all teams were considered A teams and would regularly schedule each other and attend the same tournaments. Nothing would change except there would be a AA and A designation for state tourna...

Re: The forums favorite state champion and untold story’s from the morning after championship Saturday
Some are old enough to remember. There were schools where, back in the 1970's, students would go into the designated smoking lounge and take a smoke break...right with their teachers. Or there is was always that one designated spot on campus where students would gather to smoke, it was out in the op...

Re: One Change to the Playoffs/State Tournament
If you could wave a magic wand and make one change to the playoffs or the state tournament, what would it be? (doesn't have to be realistic or feasible: just wondering what you would like different) For me, I wish all the section playoffs were on tv somewhere (or at least a high quality internet st...

USHL draft pick, committed to UND, NHL father. Sorry if I don't shed a tear for this kid if he has to sit out a few games until January rolls around. I'm sure things will work out just fine for him in the long run.

Re: New Body Contact Rules
I’m probably in the minority but I think the changes are positive and just hope they stick with them and get the change in play they are looking for. There is nothing exciting about grinding physical play. A skil game is way more exciting and it’s an entertainment business. I also disagree with the...

Re: New Body Contact Rules
Watched that video, shaking my head. Agree with all the points above how responsibility is being taken off the offensive player to not put themselves in a bad position and to keep your head up. Agree that checking should be started at younger ages so players learn the proper way to do things before ...

Re: Minnesota Hockey cut-off dates
I think it's more about if you make the change to birth years then you will have players that will be in 9th grade (late birth year players) that will have run out of Bantam eligibility and who may not be developmentally ready for HS hockey as a freshman. There is a lot of change that goes on with y...

Pure Hogwash!!!! If this is pure hogwash why is Jeff Panzer's house for sale in Grand Fork's? I've heard it's a done deal that his kid is playing in EGF next year. A lot of people in EGF are going to have to quit throwing stones now that they live in a glass house. Both the goalie this coming year ...

Re: Checking in bantams
I had my son use a wooden stick through squirts. I can tell you the cost savings is negligible. You can buy a cheap composite youth stick for under $50, easily, especially with sales, that will perform better than a wood stick. Lower grade composites are more durable than the more expensive composit...

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." That's what I took from that article. It's so true. There are players I have watched over the years that continue to get opportunities on the better teams/at the next level and I cannot understand why. I see one thing, somebody else sees something el...

The thread has derailed a little from the OP, so congrats to Duluth and it is nice to see all that homegrown talent on the roster. The community based hockey model is working indeed. Now for me to derail it some more. I spent the past weekend in Detroit at the NAHL combine. My takeaways from sitting...

Amazing to think of the roster that could be at WBL next season based on some of their squirt/peewee/bantam teams. Notable players not currently on the roster include Cameron Berg (AAA Lancers), Owen Gallatin (USNTP), Chaz and Cruz Lucius (Gentry 15U, although some people may say they could also be...
