Re: The Hermantown Thread

It seems it will be a tougher road than usual to the championship game and a title for the Hawks. A potential match-up with SCC in the semis and Warroad in the finals. It seems like a while since they have been the "underdog".

Re: The Hermantown Thread

I'm surprised that there isn't more uproar within the Hermantown community to move them up to AA on a couple of year trial basis...might even help recruiting to get the boys to the bigger show The Hermantown parents I know don't want to. They look at losing in the PeeWee or Bantam AA STATE Tourname...

That is my take as well.

Re: Section 8 AA semis

I think STMA and Moorhead are solid favorites. I think Moorhead got a bit of a wake-up call with the tight score against Bemidji. I think Roseau has the talent, but they seem to be off their game a bit and will have a long bus ride.

Re: Could a Class A team win it all this year if we still had single class tourney?

I see two thing happening with a single class tournament (8 Teams) in regards to class A teams. 1. If the sections are competitively balanced with top teams, it will be just a recreation of the AA tournament filled with AA teams with occasionally a single A team making the tournament. Maybe a Herman...

Re: No northern team makes the tourney this year

I would say that Andover has the psychological advantage this year of feeling like the are truly the best team in 7AA and there isn't that "mystique" of East (with them being down in talent and playoff experience). I would also say Moorhead is primed for a deep push at State. If the seedin...

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting

I would say that being a class A team near a "metro" area has some distinct advantages that go beyond player movement. Areas like Duluth, Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks-EGF, etc. are hockey hubs. Players have access to development that "satellite" programs can't match. I will use E...

Re: One Change to the Playoffs/State Tournament

3 classes. Top 2 teams (A and AA) in each section advance to a Sweet 16 Tournament (Cross Bracketed). This format still has all the big schools competing against each other in AA, but adds some depth to A by mixing some of the current mid-level AA with top A programs. The B tournament ( 8 teams) wou...

Re: One Change to the Playoffs/State Tournament

State tournament broken up into A, AA, and AAA, which would be adjusted every year regarding teams and the bracket they go into. And teams won’t know what bracket their put into until after the regular season. FSNirth has a big selection show/reveal. The ratings for that show would be off the chart...

Re: Could a Class A team win it all this year if we still had single class tourney?

I enjoy watching class A teams in the State tournament. My favorite memory from 2018 was watching Alex take down Hermantown in the semi-finals. And in 2019 it was Greenway's run from sections to the championship game. I would hate to lose the class A tournament on the hopes of getting a class A team...

Re: Could a Class A team win it all this year if we still had single class tourney?

I think it is possible, but unlikely. Most would likely not be favorites within their own sections. This is a good take. I think the top six Class A teams are capable of knocking off any AA team in a single game. But putting together an extended playoff run is much more difficult. Still, if there w...

I'm directing this at the people who have invested time in looking at A and AA level schools and have some distinct data points that are used when trying to make a decision at the level to play. I've been asked to gather some information about what factors go into a high school playing A versus AA,...

In 7AA--Andover over Hermantown
In 8AA--Moorhead over EGF or Warroad
In 6AA--The Wayzata/Blake/Edina gauntlet for SCC.

Hermantown just outshot Duluth Marshall 48-4, winning 10-0. And no JV for Marshall. I’d say that program is officially dead. And they play AA???????? Hibbing is officially dead as well. Proctor and Denfeld are in great shape long term. Not dead forever, just dead in their current form. Something dr...

Re: Top 20 single A teams since inception (1994)

Okay let's look at Hibbing: Influencing Factors (in no particular order): 1. Community Population From 1990 or so to now the population has dropped from 18000 to 16000 (roughly) School population has dropped maybe a bit more. 2. Community Financial Resources The iron range has suffered but there ar...
