Re: Might be an ugly season...

So some of the refs there were also from MN... and guessing the refs dont only do HS games but youth as well. So.. you should be able to extrapolate from there.. even the Jr. coaches and scouts said they are seeing the same issues in and out of MN and at all levels... also... title was... MIGHT be a...

Might be an ugly season...

Watched over a half dozen games last weekend... officiating is all grossly over the place. Issues I saw, any hit where a player was hit hard, and cleanly, was penalized, especially if the other team or crowd "ohhh and ahh". They would give a rough, elbow or interference. Most puck carriers hit were ...

Re: Watch NTDP vs Elite League this weekend

Chaz ended up with 5 and JJ 3 Final 17–5 as Team NE with a tough day for D and Gs Lucius with 5, and not a single one from outside of 10 feet. 4 of 5 within 3 feet. Stands next to the net and shovels in rebounds (which is certainly a skill all its own). Expends very little energy; rarely gives a hi...

Re: 2019 Elite League Rosters

My $0.02... the MSP team D was soft, you have to be able to slow a team down or be a speed bump... D did neither with any regularity... think it's another example of grabbing the kids that jump up and sacrifice D for scoring. No physicality on the back end. I get everyone wants to showcase skill, bu...

Re: 2019 Elite League Rosters

The focus is on points... even on the D side. I have heard on more than one occasion that player X didn't have enough points to warrant HSEL consideration.... but go back and see how many guys are playing with (especially forwards) with less than 20 points during the HS year... just saying....

Re: 2019 Elite League Rosters

Funny though, Map South beats BA 10-2, Sanford beats BA 8-3 and 4-2, then Sanford beats Map South 6-0.... Sanford can't beat BA by 6 goals but can beat Map South by 6? Map South beats BA by 8... sounds like it's not cut and dried. I guarantee you they are not a HSEL team (though couple could easily ...

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?

I'll say one huge difference between Giles and Randolph is that Giles cares only about his team. Randolph only cares about winning games and will destroy a kids potential in order to play a style that helps the team win. If a kid wants to develop he doesn't go to East HS he goes to Edina. That righ...

Re: Will Curt Giles ever get his due?

Let's not forget they cut 3/4 of the players that tryout for HS, law of averages and history shows he has more talent as a whole than most schools every year to choose from (except MG from #'s). He should be able to win more consistently. Not saying anything about him not being a good coach, but som...

Re: New Body Contact Rules

Hitting a person who doesn’t have the puck certainly can be intimidating. It’s also illegal. The game is so fast especially when you are playing it, sitting in the stands it may appear the players have "tons of time" to avoid contact, not so much when you are on the ice and have committed yourself ...

Re: New Body Contact Rules

I didn't see anyone say anything about going out of your way to "finish a check". Finishing should be as a part of the play, many times if you dont "finsh" and let that guy go free.. you are out of the play.. Difference in taking yourself out of the play... sometimes it happens, but most times you a...

Re: New Body Contact Rules

Agree, the ugly stuff needs to come out, but they are amputating the game, trying to find a quick fix. Some examples, the "no icing rule" on PK it's no more to generate creativity: it's to generate scoring/opportunities, removal of checking at younger ages: give kids a chance to score with no fear o...
