Re: The Hermantown Thread
It never gets old watching the wannabe hockey purists whine about St.Thomas. And Blake. And Breck. And Hermantown. Eventually you crabby folks will get your way and there will be no talent in A hockey. Then you will undoubtedly have another thread complaining about the boring A tournament and how n...

And SSP upends Gentry. Packers showed up ready and snuffed out the Gentry offense. Goalie played very well. Well done by them.

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting
Not picking any sides just thought I would note that the Pagestat SOS rankings don’t have any A in teams in the top 40. Hermantown is first at 41 (followed closely by a few other A teams). My personal take from that would be that maybe it is a problem, but less prevalent than what is implied here. ...

Re: Ideas that should be brought to the Minnesota Hockey Board
If touch up just isn’t reasonable, then I suggest they at least go back to where play is not stopped unless the offending team touches the puck in the offensive zone. This gives the advantage to the puck possession team and keeps play moving. Stopping play immediately when the puck crosses the line...

Re: Section 4A Parity?
The bottom part of the bracket could go 1 of 4 different ways, honestly. SSP, SPA, SPJ and GA are all capable of beating each other. If Tartan advances, it will be interesting to see how/Mahto handles them. Upset is possible, but I doubt it would happen again in this setting. Johnson over Gentry see...

Re: Final Regular Season A Rankings for 2/16/20
Careful of what? From the story, it looks like they’re following the rules and I haven’t seen any issues raised so far. Serious question, I just don’t know what they should be careful about. I know you are Gentry Guy Puck8 just also know in Class A if you bring in Tier 1 kids and you guys all the s...

Re: Section 4A Parity?
1) Mahtomedi 2) Johnson 3) Gentry 4) Tartan 5) Simley 6) South St Paul 7) SPA 8 ) Sibley 9) Red Wing 10) Highland Park Johnson seeded over Gentry is notable but without much consequence. Mahtomedi continues as favorite but it’s just not as clear cut as previous years. The possible Johnson/Gentry sem...

Re: Final Regular Season A Rankings for 2/16/20
P.S. I make a point not to look at Elliott’s ranks before posting, so it was coincidence that ours ended up being similar. https://www.mnhockeyhub.com/news_article/show/1087616 WOW Gentry Academy who only loses 1 Senior (Backup Goalie) will bring back entire team plus will get kids off of the disso...

Re: Ideas that should be brought to the Minnesota Hockey Board
Wise old man - I guess I just can’t match the credentials you so clearly laid out for us. But I have no idea how your diatribe on Northern/Outstate vs Metro teams and your insertion of transfer rules fit into this. How you were able to inject Hermantown into this is baffling. That aside, we will hav...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
So, just as a hypothetical: If a Stillwater bantam freshman is asked by the Stillwater HS coaching staff, after the bantam season has already started, to skate captains' practices and tryout for the HS team (let's even say with the stated expectation that the kid would likely play mostly JV but get...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Any policy that is punitive, vindictive or black list in nature is absurd. The thread seems to have drifted to high school in general vs private high school. But the thought that a Bantam team will be hamstrung and confused or ‘chemistry’ will be broken because a player moves up is equally absurd. T...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
The association and schools loss is the ice time that is given to these players at the expense of others watching from the bench that will eventually end up in your high school system. So are peewee and bantam state championships meaningless? "Sorry folks, I know that we probably would have wo...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
I can certainly understand and association not wanting to give a lot of ice time to a player who they know is not going to go into their high school system. One would have thought we would be immune from it way up north, but we had a youth player who was first liner at every level, played power pla...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Let's hypothetically say that is a possibility, a H-M or AHA, or BSM, etc. youth program, a simple rule would be those programs are restricted to kids that go to Catholic grade schools/Jr High. It's not that crazy as Fargo has the Fargo Angels program and there are many cities across the country th...

Re: Section 4A Parity?
Gentry 5 SSP 2 Assuming Gentry, Mahtomedi and Johnson all win their remaining games, does Gentry have enough to take #1? Does Johnson have enough for #2? Solid wins (not necessarily elite, just solid): Mahto - SPA, Hastings, Monticello, SSPx2, Northfield, Alexandria, STA, Hill, Breck. Total 10 Gentr...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Why doesn't Hill-Murray list where their players are from in their media guide? They should at least do that. That would shine a light on the youth hockey associations who developed their players. Or they were such poor systems that the parents and student felt that HM (or whatever private school) ...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Aren't HS tryouts like a month and a half after the youth season begins? Yes, so under this rule you would basically have to remove them from the top team and replace them, which would be pretty weird for all involved. It's not necessary. The kid would already attend the Private if he has the optio...

Re: Section 4A Parity?
I'll for sure be keeping an eye on Gentry vs. SSP tonight. Gentry should be expected to win, but I don't count SSP out of any of their section games. It could be a close one, and if SSP wins might shake things up. Probably one of the more telling games as the rest of the regular season goes. Agreed...

Re: Section 4A Parity?
Good post. Agree that parity is pretty much the theme. But one thing is for sure - this is not the same Gentry team that Mahtomedi beat in the playoffs last year. Not saying they have the upper hand, but it will be a great game if they should meet. The others have been beating each other up so 4-8 ...

Re: Single A top 20 2/2/2020
Section 4A LOCK Mahtomedi Disagree that they are a LOCK. I would say Favorite, but I would add Johnson and Gentry as legit challengers. The argument for Mahtomedi is that they’ve played a more difficult schedule and are better prepared. But it’s one thing to play AA and another to play and win thos...
