This was a HUGE statement win by East. They came out and controlled the team that's been looking like their biggest competition for the section title on the road. The top players stepped up when they needed to, and Cooper had an excellent game in goal. If he can keep this up down the stretch, #1 in ...

Thank you Arbour! That's what East needed, plus they get another power play to milk away the clock a bit more.

Nothing coming easy for East. They need to bury one more. Typical East game in that the shots are not reflective of the score.

No scoring, but that was an impressive power play by East. I don't think Rapids cleared it once. Now it's Rapids' turn...

East's first line is having a dominant game; they each have a goal.

They can't let up now though. Remember Elk River.

East is really taking it to Rapids so far this period, but nothing to show for it yet. Hopefully they don't end up regretting these last few minutes.

Solid first period for East. They killed off a number of penalties and Cooper seems to be doing pretty well. They just need to keep up the pressure.

The trip up to Roseau alone is pretty daunting.

They're not in the poll, but historically I'd give some credit to Cloquet. Duluth East hasn't won there in a long time, and they play there every year.

There's the start East needed. Boese unassisted, took it away from a defenseman.

The rumors circulating the student section said that Larson quit due to playing time and being stuck behind a junior. His decision didn't go over well. I think Cooper has more upside, but he scares me with the rebounds he allows and how far he ranges from the goal. Since they'd pretty much committed...

The thing is, they said this game would be closer than in recent years last year. And it was actually more lopsided than the previous year...8-1 East. Denfeld may be desperate to beat East, but East probably needs a win just as much at this point, so I don't think either team has an emotional edge. ...

Seeing as East, Rapids, and Cloquet each play each other once before Sections, I'd say they all control their own destiny, and any team that can win two of those games will get the number one seed. And that's a pretty big reward, since it will mean the other two will have to play each other in a sem...

Before this deteriorates too much further... Mellin moved from 3rd to 2nd line, while Brent Olson moved up to 3rd line, in place of Lutzka. They both recorded assists last night, so they're not bad, but I'm a bit baffled as to why the person who is tied for 2nd on the team in goals was benched. Lutz...

Who was in goal for East tonight?
Also, did Kyle Lutzka play? He wasn't out there in the Centennial game, which screws up the lines and takes away a good scoring threat.

Lee, I agree completely. There was only one game so far where East was obviously overmatched (Hill-Murray). I'll attempt to asess some of the trends. East's wins have all been by significant margins. None of them have been that close (9-0 Central, 6-3 Wayzata, 5-3 Moorhead, 8-2 Centennial, 4-0 Anoka...

Hopefully East will revert to pre-Schwan Cup form and control an Elk River team that seems to be on a downward trend. And from what I've heard, Randolph is not letting them take this one lightly. I'll say East 6-2.

Just wondering...why are so many people so high on Centennial? I've seen them play twice and have not come away impressed. I'm not saying they're bad; there's certainly talent there and I wouldn't be shocked to see them at state. But I'd rank them around 15th right now.
