Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Let's hypothetically say that is a possibility, a H-M or AHA, or BSM, etc. youth program, a simple rule would be those programs are restricted to kids that go to Catholic grade schools/Jr High. It's not that crazy as Fargo has the Fargo Angels program and there are many cities across the country th...

Re: Section 4A Parity?
Gentry 5 SSP 2 Assuming Gentry, Mahtomedi and Johnson all win their remaining games, does Gentry have enough to take #1? Does Johnson have enough for #2? Solid wins (not necessarily elite, just solid): Mahto - SPA, Hastings, Monticello, SSPx2, Northfield, Alexandria, STA, Hill, Breck. Total 10 Gentr...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Why doesn't Hill-Murray list where their players are from in their media guide? They should at least do that. That would shine a light on the youth hockey associations who developed their players. Or they were such poor systems that the parents and student felt that HM (or whatever private school) ...

Re: Association not allowing privates on top teams
Aren't HS tryouts like a month and a half after the youth season begins? Yes, so under this rule you would basically have to remove them from the top team and replace them, which would be pretty weird for all involved. It's not necessary. The kid would already attend the Private if he has the optio...

Re: Section 4A Parity?
I'll for sure be keeping an eye on Gentry vs. SSP tonight. Gentry should be expected to win, but I don't count SSP out of any of their section games. It could be a close one, and if SSP wins might shake things up. Probably one of the more telling games as the rest of the regular season goes. Agreed...

Re: Section 4A Parity?
Good post. Agree that parity is pretty much the theme. But one thing is for sure - this is not the same Gentry team that Mahtomedi beat in the playoffs last year. Not saying they have the upper hand, but it will be a great game if they should meet. The others have been beating each other up so 4-8 ...

Re: Single A top 20 2/2/2020
Section 4A LOCK Mahtomedi Disagree that they are a LOCK. I would say Favorite, but I would add Johnson and Gentry as legit challengers. The argument for Mahtomedi is that they’ve played a more difficult schedule and are better prepared. But it’s one thing to play AA and another to play and win thos...

Re: Proposal for Three Class System
Sweet! Sources are saying that they are initially leaning toward the following section assignments: Enjoy - Doc A proposed Minnesota High School section alignment scheme based on a 3-Tier system considering strength of program/ratings and Geo location. D1 --> Top 40 teams 26.85% D2 --> Middle 69 Te...

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting
I like the three class system!!! You play 25 regular scheduled games. You have to play each section opponent at least once, each team in your conference once, so that may have you playing a team twice at this point. The rest is for rivalry games or your allotted games to play up or down to get you ...

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting
I know for the Northern teams that may be a small issue so maybe it's some ratio? (like 80% of your games must be at your level) Outside of conference play, you get 3 games to play up/down. Don’t like it? Then change classes. This dynamic just makes zero sense. I would prefer 0 games, but 3 seems l...

Re: Ideas that should be brought to the Minnesota Hockey Board
Yes -
All good ideas you added. Good point on the whistles for changes but perhaps change one or the other (icing or offside) for squirts and both for PW on up. Seem like easy changes that can add a lot of ice time to every game.

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting
Instituting a Class placement policy based on D1 commits would be a non-starter with MSHSL and I would have to agree. Too many ongoing changing dynamics within that process with verbal vs NLI, decommits, transfers, players leave for juniors, etc. But you lost me on the whole recruiting part. First y...

Gentry v Johnson will be
. With Mahtomedi back on track, this is likely a battle for the 2 seed. Will be interesting to see which style prevails - Run and gun or physicality.

Re: Ideas that should be brought to the Minnesota Hockey Board
I'm a bit late on this, but some ideas: 1) Implement touch-up offside at all levels. Too much time is wasted on a rule that isn't even present at the higher levels. The idea that it forces teams to regroup and learn puck control is moot. That is necessary with touch up as well, and I would argue tha...

Re: Single A Top 20 1-5-2020
After weeks of stability near the top of the rankings, we finally had a significant shakeup thanks to one of the most exciting games of the regular season. There is still a pretty clearly defined top six teams, with chaos reigning after that. Can any of the interlopers step up and stake out their s...
