Re: The Hermantown Thread

With the Hermantown-Mahtomedi matchup, now 35 of the last 42 participants in the Class A title game are from metro areas. The founders of Class A are rolling in their graves. :?

Won’t matter it is Hermantown and then everybody else in class A hockey RIP A Hockey Maybe in West Duluth and Hibbing, but the not in the rest of the state. Tell that to one of the largest crowd that ever attending the Class A semi finals. By the way Hunter, you are hardly the definition of a Class...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Just a few years ago the popular opinion on this board was that youth hockey and high school hockey are different and what happens in youth hockey doesnt mean much in high school. What changed??? Ot did the members here just turnover? In metro areas where constant transferring and open enrolling ar...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Duluth Marshall opted up. So why not Hibbing. Other than the incredibly obvious fact that DM is located smack dab in the center of a metro area of 150,000 people, you're right, they are in identical scenarios. But, hey, I'm on board. I would be completely happy if Hibbing went AA, in fact, I'll do ...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

The east range schools are the definition of what class A hockey is supposed to be about. They are comprised of smaller schools, who put together an once-in-a-decade team that has the chance to make a good run to state at the class A level. GR is exactly where they are supposed to be. They can make...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Um heck no , rather play in the big tournament the real class with 20,000 fans not 6500 and besides a little upt up town of Grand Rapids won in 2017 AA state tournament with the same amount of kids in the youth program as Hibbing, Virginia, Eveleth, Thief River Falls , Alexandria, East Grand Forks,...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

I could care less about the enrollment. All that matters is how many kids are currently Playing in your program the range schools including Grand Rapids are the same. both field a A team of some kind and a B team. So what’s your excuse now. How many kids go out for hockey at minis and mites in GR c...

Re: AA tournament not a state tournament?

I thought the only angle he was taking in writing this article was that the class A tournement is a quality tournement. Not sure the point was to bash the AA tournament, just to state the facts, that it is indeed made of mostly teams from the metro. Blame is correctly placed on economics, populatio...

Re: 7A - Thoughts

As EGF is to Warroad in 8A. CEC would be to Hermantown in 7A. I also like the sound of youth hockey at CEC doing away with AA in favor of A. Rainman, Jeffy and the new clown hunters1993, would have a cow if Cloquet moved to 7A. And then Pat Andrews would recruit that cow to the Hawks so it co...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Today it's Hermantown Yesterday it was STA If Hermantown moves up then tomorrow it will be St. Cloud Cathedral, EGF and Warroad. Soon after Alexandria, Mahtomedi, Orono, etc, etc, etc. So, if all larger or stronger Class A schools move up we would be left with a great AA tournament, yet a lot of qu...

It never gets old watching the wannabe hockey purists whine about St.Thomas. And Blake. And Breck. And Hermantown. Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting

I think the days of programs with their own kiddos are long gone. It’s 2020 and so many have outside kids move in. The best teams in the state consistently the last 20 years have consistent move in/transfers. I don’t see CEC ever being a destination for kids looking for a team. Duluth East, Hermant...

Re: People wanting to stay A... about single A teams recruiting

When AA teams stop playing A teams (or aren't allowed to plan A teams), this whole issue will be resolved. It always befuddles me when people think this is the answer public dismay with said top A team. While it very well may fix that issue and they might decide to move up, it creates another layer...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Would anything happen if no single A teams played them all year? Would the MSHSL or someone step in or would it not matter? I've thought something similar to this would be hilarious. Namely, I'd like to see all other 7A teams opt up to AA as a protest move. If they did this, their regular season sc...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

I have only one question? Why in the ************* is your best player on the ice with five seconds left and it’s five to zero? Afraid of a comeback? I lost all respect for you after that. Top line played the final minute. The Virginia kid had two goals so he was trying to get him his hat trick to ...

Semifinals at Amsoil tomorrow night. I have low expectations for a competitive game in the first one, though to Eveleth's credit, the Golden Bears did stick around into the third period in the early regular season meeting. They have a nice senior class with some rocks on D who could at least keep m...

WDIO in Duluth will be streaming both the 7A and 7AA semifinals on Saturday along with the section championships. It's $34.95 for the 6 game package.

Saw Joey several times the summer after 8th grade , and he was playing two years older at that time. I would venture to guess Hermantown HS contributed more to his growth than Ely HS could have... Love to see UMD keep the northern boys home.
False. Kid was already fantastic when he arrived in H-town. Would have been UMD material either way.
