Re: Future of Duluth Marshall

Coach Flaherty was the backbone of building and maintaining the Marshall boys program, ever since he got sick the numbers have been in a downward trend. I think that is part of it. I think that what is going on hereis deeper than that. Hockey numbers are down across the board. People simply can't k...

Re: Future of Duluth Marshall

Interesting. a feeder/pipeline for Hermantown’s AA and A players who won’t play on a high school team crowded with transfers and open enrollment kids. Kinda like the Hermantown Hawks junior gold team but a high school hockey team. That’s a powerful chip on those kids shoulders that then play for Du...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

so is it one or two or three individuals keeping Hermantown from moving up to AA in high school and lining up with what their youth hockey boys teams do. I would think that a big majority of the kids and fans want 7AA. I really want to be a fan, as I am off all my fellow 218 hockey programs, but I ...

Sadly, the next biggest line item for SCSU's athletic department to look at might be womens' hockey.
Something has to give. They can't keep raising tuition prices and etc like that have in the past. I think that this is the opening move for more to do that same.

Re: Final Cuts

Thank you all for your comments, seriously. I totally understand all of them, and have taken them in. I believe if this kid wants it, he will get it. It is totally up to him. Thanks again guys! Been there and done that. Remember that Juniors is a business so you have to be a bit jaded when you are ...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

Elite league players Rapids 7 CEC 2 Duluth East 2 Strength of schedule is probably East, Rapids, then CEC. Cloquet usually has 0-1 elite leavers per year so I don’t hold that league as an indicator on how I think our season will go. We’ve never consistently played tough scheduled like East and Rapi...

Re: 7A - Thoughts

Proctor's new hockey arena. I just walked though it earlier today. It is so nice! Reminds me alot of Cloquet's arena. Proctor is going to make 7A very interesting in a few years. You heard that here first =)!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Another preposterous statement. Thanks! Sorry, sorry...PERPOSTEROUS. I so...

So the question then for this game and the one last night between East and Andover is............ In the 3rd period when the under dog had the bad guy on the ropes and ended up getting beat was it? 1) The yips setting in when the kids realized that they had them on the ropes? 2) The coaches throttli...

Snipped a bunch May not of worded quite right, we dont have import playing high school this year, one of our own kids of equal talent to Pierce. Wont need to import any for 2nd and 3rd line depth we will have our own. Dont fault the small town kids for going to the "Bright lights" at all, better ho...

Quote "it also ties in to Minnesota Hockey's decision a number of years ago to change their participation rule from "Play where you live" to "Play where you live OR where you go to school". Yea. I was so looking forward to seeing Greenway in the state tournament this year. Hermantown got 7A wrapped up for the next decade. Greenway returns most of their team next year. Perhaps they’ll even have an effective 3rd line. I expect them to challenge Hermantown again. Don’t give up just yet o...

So why do we keep talking about Hermantown? Why keep spending money going to games? Why advertise on their games and etc? If their school's admin and etc won't put them into the category where they belong and have proven that they can play don't mess with them. Follow Duluth East's example. When the...

I’m pulling for Greenway in a big way in this one. “Do you believe in miracles?” I do! Cause Hermantown is stacked and lined up for another 10 year run in Class A state tournament championship games. Pulling for the big Green as well. Pull the ol' upset special. come on Greenway! To me this game is...

I wonder if 7AA's reliance on QRF will force H-town's hand regarding the A versus AA debate. My impression is that 7AA teams don't gain anything by playing A teams - it even sounds like it could hurt them. So, why would 7AA teams continue to schedule H-town. For example, GR played two games against...

I will also add that the web presence has definitely gone south. Not sure why that ever changed but Bobber had a nice site going for sure. I think most people would agree with that. OK. The title to the post made me look at the thread. If the old site was that good and followed that closely make it...

That is awesome! Hermantown hockey deserves a nice place to call home Hermantown is working on it. But it is a tough project for such a small town without a lot of resources. Didn't they just build a new school there? I suspect (but don't know) that getting another tax increase to build a new facil...

Extending the periods probably isn't quite as important as extending the number of games. Adding aything less than 10 games would have minimal if any effect on a kids decision to leave high school and play elsewhere Starting the season one month earlier (about the time association hockey starts) an...

You are correct. I should not be using words like that. Old habits die slowly. No excuses though, it would be best if I stopped using those. I do apologize to anyone I offended. Thank you for that acknowledgment, it is a nice gesture and very much appreciated. And I am sorry if it felt like I was b...

In 7AA, the T-hawks have plenty of ways to improve. Stopping weight training with the 12 ounce curls is a good first step. I sure hope that isn't true. I hope there isn't "functional training" going on, all this crap about balancing on a bosu with pink 5 lb. dumbbells and air squats. Sadly this non...

Jeffy95 - as someone that had there kid in one of the schools just last year you mentioned I do have to disagree. Having a classroom with 10-12 vs. 30 plus is a huge improvement. Having an average ACT score that is almost 6 points above the MN average also says a lot. Also I know from talking to se...

The bigger issue is the whole transfer rule. From what I heard East cut 16 kids this year and have 41 for V and JV. Yet you have Duluth Denfeld that doesn't even have a JV team this year because numbers are so low. I also heard Hermantown was going to cut around 15. Marshall only had 37 kids this y...

They should have a decent team this year. Then I think they go back to mediocre for the next several years. They just won't ever have enough depth to compete. True but you never know who will decide that a private school education is the way to go. With as screwed up as the school system in Duluth ...

Re: BEST POST I HAVE EVER SEEN ON THIS FORUM

Ely varsity is not exactly a superstar mark on the resume. May or may not make it big. Give the kiddo time to develop. 7AA nor 7A is not going to get excited until he proves himself. He will have plenty of time. Thats how Htown is.... seniors lead, jrs follow, soph sit down and shut up ...and fresh...

I dont think the Hawks have ever moved a player up early.....and they have had plenty that could have. I would be shocked if Pat Andrews changes that tradition. I agree - but has a kid ever played Varsity at one school, then back to Bantams at another? And a "down" year is what Hawk faithful is say...
