Re: 2021-22 Coaching Openings

A little different coming out of section 2AA then 4AA I’m sure might have played a factor. Had many teams in the Top 10-15 year in and year out. I've thought the same thing. He had some very good teams. So weird they never reached the tournament even once. I think the final PS2 rank one year was 3rd.

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Good Lord - MN hockey has been outshining all other state for years with nary a Gentry like academy in sight. I lived away and moved back. Couldn't believe how many guys earn a living solely from training kids in hockey. Programming at Minnesota Made, MAP, Breakaway, many others, and scores of guys...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

All true, and I guess I was just focusing on the actual NEPSIHA sanctioned season length. Off-season AAA seems like it is engrained into hockey everywhere, including here in Minnesota (though not to the same extent as elsewhere). The prep school season is about the same length as here in MN, while ...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

I’ll push back some on that statement, because you start to get into chicken-and-egg thing with Massachusetts. There have always been tons of prep schools in New England, and they have long enticed higher end players to transfer into their programs for at least a year or two (with reclassification ...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

The problem I see (not with Gentry) is that a third class of hockey has progressed in Minnesota. The problem with it is how do you segregate this class to make things more even for finding a state champion at the various levels. We currently have: 1. small schools 2. bigger schools and 3. those tha...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Every school (except yours, I guess) has a gym. Most don't have ice rinks. I don't believe you are well equipped for the future. My guess is that a few established high schools mimic Gentry. Bounced this off a couple people I trust and they concur. People can't have it both ways. Minnesota hockey c...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

But, please, let's be intellectually honest and not pretend that it's a level ice sheet. Has anyone? I think you'll see similar offerings to what exists at Northstar, Breakaway & Gentry. I found out a crappy HS team practices before school. Is it any wonder the good players from their youth program...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

I do, in fact, understand the difference between recruit and attract. Your heads are in the sand, but if you’re happy, keep on keepin’ on. It's funny to me you've had 4 posts using this screen name and lob such attacks. I know what schools do when they are contacted. First hand. I'm in enough rinks...

Re: Section Realignment

What would be the new Section 6AA under this leaked scenario is obscene. Maple Grove and Edina are arguably the top two youth programs in the state, and add in Wayzata, and you have the three largest youth programs in the state (country?) competing in the same high school section. Maybe the initial...

Re: Section Realignment

Sections should be aligned with some geography in mind and if the best 8 are in one section on a given year, then so be it. It's not "a given year" but rather every year. At one point the best hockey was in the north so they had a "back door" to let in another team that didn't win its section. Earl...

Re: Section Realignment

Sections have always been regional. I understand it is the state tournament with regional representation and not a Great 8. HOWEVER, where the lines are drawn is fluid and we've seen Jefferson/Kennedy in a different section from Edina/Richfield/Minnetonka, Elk River/Andover with Grand Rapids/Duluth...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

What’s the purpose of MSHSL bylaw 308.00 solicitation of a student, if coaches and parents ignore it and MSHSL looks the other way? I have no interest in watching the “Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament” anymore if it’s just a bunch of recruited players from all over the place. Just do a...

I'm taking these "leaks" with a ton of salt.
Great assessment.

I think it should be pretty easy to get this section together:
  • Benilde
    Chaska
    Eden Prairie
    Edina
    Holy Family
    Maple Grove
    Minnetonka
    Wayzata
After all, these towns are right next to each other.

Re: Section Realignment

Wow. The things that I would have done like putting Rosemount or Prior Lake in 1 and diluting 2 & 6 a bit by shutting a team into 3 & 5 are exactly the opposite of what happened. Southwest Metro suburban hockey is far and away the state’s best and MSHSL doesn’t want to see much representation at sta...

Puck 8, great stuff. The expression is that the truth can never catch up to the lie, so I find solace in knowing if you do the right thing long enough there won't be problems in the long run. Doesn't really lessen the speedbumps on the road. I like everyone I've met from Gentry a lot. Very impressed...

The majority of the rest had very deep connections to MN (mom or dad from MN). Don't forget, EP provides information on where they are born and where the played peewees and bantams. That doesn't mean they are not minnesotan residents. A lot of misinformation is being tossed around by people who fee...

Instead of unseeded team (Wayzata) getting bye to semifinals, they should give bye to #1 seed (EP) and have STA and Wayzata (other two unseeded teams) play seeded MG and Andover.
MSHSL way too beholden to the bookmakers. They'd pull their support right quick.
