Re: Anyone have clout with the MSHSL or Channel 45?

I brought a very similar topic up a few weeks ago: http://www.ushsho.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=37942 Not exactly sure why it's so difficult to find a way to see these games. Makes sense that if folks in Minnesota would watch old NCAA basketball/hockey, NFL, NBA, NHL or MLB games, they would al...

Re: State Games To Watch Again or For 1st Time

The 1967 Greenway/Johnson game is on YouTube The 1982 Edina vs Jefferson semifinal game and the Hibbing vs White Bear Mariner games are now on YouTube. Really good stuff! Thanks for cluing me in on these games! The Greenway/Johnson game is indeed on YouTube, but holy s*** is it poor quality. Which ...

State Games To Watch Again or For 1st Time

There are many state tournament games I would like to watch over again, including the first game I can remember watching - the '72 championship game between Grand Rapids and International Falls. All I now remember from that contest is the name Peter Waselovich, Falls' goalie. What's frustrating is t...

Re: Greatest Games That Never Were

-1995: A best of 7 between Duluth East & Jefferson:This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I still believe Jefferson was the better team....it just wasn't their night. An interesting take. Jefferson missed on 2-3 golden opportunities that likely would have led to a different game, certainly not ...

Re: Greatest Games That Never Were

1979 - Grand Rapids vs Edina East - This game would have occurred in the semifinals, but Rapids lost to Roseau in the quarters. Many say this was Grand Rapids' best team in their 1972-81 run of greatness. 1982 - Hibbing vs Edina. Hibbing looked like a free wheeling, well oiled machine in the quarter...

Re: 1996: Duluth East/Apple Valley

I have seen a picture or freeze-frame somewhere that clearly shows the puck in the net. Not sure where to find it--maybe in a newspaper archive?--but it exists. I worked in the sports department at the Duluth News Tribune from 1992-97. A few days after the Apple Valley game, Kevin Pates, the boys h...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

. . . Have posted this three or four times since tourney. No one has given a reason for staying in class A The only reason Hermantown needs to stay in Class A is that they are well below the enrollment threshold for being forced to move to Class AA. Like it or not (and I don't), that is the only re...

Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

The 1980 final with Grand Rapids and Hill Murray should be up there too. Hill was undefeated going into the final and lost 2-1, despite outshooting Rapids 32-16. A couple things about the 1980 tournament. Nobody could have anticipated that after Rapids won the title it would be 37 years before anot...

We were happy to have the Guentzel's send their kids to HM. They were always a treat to watch. I'll tell you this. Hill was won 4 titles. They've been the favorite once in those years (1983 they went undefeated). They've had other teams that have been top ranked and fallen short, which any fan of h...

There will be 4 great hockey games played today at the X. If people can get over ther names and zone in on the games, they can be entertaining. I think everyone should remember when watching these games, they are HIGH SCHOOL teams. Cant find anything else like it I guess for me, it's more that I ju...

Re: 7AA 2019-2020

I think Andover wins Thursday but I have doubted Elk River before, I also think both teams make it back to the final again next year also. Really? Elk River loses Humphrey, Michaelis and Koziol among their 7 seniors, but with the majority of their roster returning, they will at least be seasoned. H...

Re: 7AA Semifinal II: Elk River vs Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids got robbed on a score. Replay clearly showed it was in., but whistle blew & that's it. ER empty netter so it's 3-1 ER final. Sad. Does anyone have a video link for said controversial goal? Can it be found anywhere? At Amsoil, they put up the overhead view on the scoreboard one time, re...

Re: 7AA FINALS

First time in the history of Region/Section 7 that two 'southern' teams are playing for the opportunity to go to State. Perhaps unbelievable that with the changing demographics and declining school enrollments in NE Minnesota since 1980, and especially since the mid-90s, that Range/Duluth area teams...

Re: 7AA Semifinal II: Elk River vs Grand Rapids

You are contradicting yourself even. If replay only showed most of the puck was across the line, then that is not in I was at the game and the overhead cam showed the puck crossing the line. I really had no skin in the game either but I saw what I saw & judging by the boos in the arena a lot of oth...

With this particular parent, the slide to irrelevance with Jacks hockey started with the insurrection that cost Esse his job. As much as this parent appreciated what Jamie Langenbrunner did for youth hockey in Cloquet, the toxicity he brought to the high school team on his short stay back in town pe...

What's the story behind it?
From what I heard, not happy with the decision to go with a younger goalie for the East game. That may have just been the tipping point, however.

Cloquet Goalie Quits team

Heard from a parent this morning that Cloquet senior goaltender, Owen Carlson, quit the team yesterday. Texted teammates, talked to the coaches and picked up his equipment.

Confirmation, Knivsy?

If you can field a team play the game. If you cancel the JV fine, but this seems like trying hard to avoid a loss. Cripes, in life if people call in sick work still continues. What are we going teaching kids when quitting is the best alternative? Sorry our JV sucks, we will still run up the score o...

Since that Forest Lake loss. It seems nobody wants to play anymore on the Duluth East squad. I know the flu takes its run on locker rooms, but this seems a little odd and different. I do hope all is well. That loss to Forest Lake was devastating to that team, coaches, parents, fans, and Hound Natio...

Re: The forums favorite state champion and untold story’s from the morning after championship Saturday

This is one of those random odd posts that has me wondering if the author is teetering on the brink of reality. For one thing, the legal drinking age in 1975 was 18, meaning a majority of players and students likely could partake. However, to surmise that players were allowed to drink and smoke on a...
