Parenteau would be a good example of a gritty junior player Lucia picked up. Although he put up a lot of points in the NAHL, he started in the Mnjhl, and now is a solid defensive defenseman for the gophs. I like watching his play and how he jumps into the play and gets the puck up the ice. Players l...

Not sure what the stronger vibe will be. I think the consensus is to have different representation of 5AA than Blaine - given the past 6-7 years of doing nothing at the Xcel. 3-9 at the Excel (in their current streak since 2005) with only 1 first round victory (in 2008) when they placed 3rd. Yeah -...

5-0 Maple Grove and 3-2 Blaine. I think MG will just be too much for Osseo. Should be a much closer game between Anoka and Blaine. I like Blaine's experience to carry them through to the finals, where they will be dismantled by Maple Grove. I think this is Maple Grove's year to prevail, but I would...

That is quite a bold prediction, but I wouldn't mind seeing it happen. I know that Totino-Grace is also a private school but they haven't been to the tournament since 05 when losing in overtime to T.J. Oshie and the Warroad Warriors in the finals. They have a good scoring line with McDonald and Roo,...

What was Rosemount back in what 96? they were a lower seed Not sure on the section seeding, but the 92 Rosemount team took 2nd in Tier II state with 6 wins, meaning if they played 3 section games to get to state, they went into the sectional tournament with only one win and ended up a state runner ...

I know at Blaine, coach Aus runs the summer STP program from the high school team all the way down to squirts. I believe the squirt STP program is a newer addition within the last few years. He also helped with the youth tryout process, I'm not sure of his involvement with that anymore but he used t...

Anoka gave Blaine a close game, but I still expected much more out of them this year. I thought they would be similar to Osseo the past 2-3 years. But as of now I don't see anyone getting by Maple Grove if they make it to the championship game. And if they do get out of 5AA this season, I think they...

When I went to Blaine we didn't pay to tryout. I believe we paid for captain's practices, then tryouts were free, then if you made the team is was $300 or so for the season. Although, things might have changed in the last 7-8 years. And for a bigger program, we usually only cut around 15 kids, some ...

Hermantown and Maple Grove will go the longest. Intersting pick on the AA side. MG has a big test Tuesday against BSM and if they get by that they could make a run into January. If MG makes it past BSM I think they could be the last AA undefeated team. I think a lot of people that haven't seen them...

Blaine-8 Osseo-3 I was starting to get a little concerned with the Bengals. Nice dominate win. Osseo did lead 3-2 in the 2nd period, Blaine was looking very flat on the defensive side and then fortunately for them they were able to find the back of the net. Malvin played decent but was a little sca...

Former Coon Rapids youth player Ian Scheid with the goal in OT for Blaine against his former teammates! Coon Rapids is a scrappy team that can give good teams a hard time, but one thing I noticed in the game was a lot of after the whistle stuff and quite a few penalties the first 2 periods before t...

Was Gross on the ice when he scored to tie the game..., or when he scored to win it in overtime? Who would you choose on that day when it counted? I'll take the very intense and competitive winner... Technically both goals were tipped in. The first by a senior last year and the second by Lambert. h...

Definetly saw this tonight. Gross>Brodzinski Brodzinski does not even belong in the same category as Gross. Gross is hands down the best defensemen in the state. Disapointed that the Gophers dropped the ball and picked Brodzinski out of these two. Gross=Better offensively Brodzinski=Better defensiv...

Dec. 8th- MG at Blaine
Who wins this one? I see Maple Grove being the better team and much deeper than the very young Blaine team, not sure Blaine will be able to keep up. But for the sake of keeping things interesting I'll say a 3-3 tie, Malvin keeps Blaine in it.

Nick is a great kid who comes from a great family, he wouldn't leave the Gophers mid-season. Although there are no certainties, I would nearly guarantee he stays the entire season, and leaves following the college season for the pros. He is having a great season but the Gophers should go farther thi...

Yeah, I was wondering too. One of my kids graduated from Osseo so I have a kinda soft spot in my head for 'em. On an unrelated note, I took my granddaughter to the Armstrong Elk River game and noticed the Armstrong team was 5 players short. Turns out they're serving a two game suspension (not hocke...
