Re: The Rise of the North in Coming Years?

Would love to see Hibbing make a run at a title or two. Would give me renewed interest. It will be interesting to see if a team besides Mahtomedi, SCC, Warroad, EGF or maybe Orono can win an A title. Outside of Hibbing looking at the youth I think Delano is your other best bet. Others in mix: Thief...

Coaches vote Proctor wins out that will have heavy impact on their voting. Yes Sir, coaches vote. Haven’t weird things happened during coaches vote in the past?I I remember everybody complaining about Mike Randolph every year at Toby’s??? Cant wait to check back on this when the seeds come out. Re: Games Saturday 1-13-24

Yep no path. Section head to head comes first they lost to Hermantown, CEC & Hibbing Even if Hibbing or CEC were to upset Hermantown it wont move Proctor up because they lost to all three. They are stuck at 4 due to going (0-3-0) vs the Top 3 seeds. Stinks but just how it will work out. They do...

Re: Games Saturday 1-13-24

Proctor is the 4 seed lost head to head in only games vs Hermantown, CEC & Hibbing. Unfortunate but they are the 4 seed due to how they have done within 7A play. Right now pretty locked at 1- Hermanrtown, 2- CEC, 3- Hibbing, 4- Proctor, 5- North Shore, 6- Greenway ... Elliott with two T’s said ...

Re: Summer HS varsity festival schedules

Correction on the name above. It is the Proctor Rails Summer Fest. Most games in Proctor and we are thankful to Hermantown for hosting the overflow. The organizers have done a great job building this over the last few years. Impressive group of teams all in one place in July. If it keeps getting big...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Rain man how you can trash Hermantown and let Mahtomedi , Orono and Warroad go is classic. Mahtomedi is 1 student away from being a AA school and Warroad is bought by Marvin Windows. Orono is the wealthiest school district in MN. The state is much bigger that your small view from Hibbing. Hermantow...

Re: 2023 Section 4AA Playoffs

I'm sticking with Hill 2-1 tonight. One of these teams will enter the X next week without a quality win. I discount any HDM win, and while there may be a slight argument that Hill's win over STA and Gentry's win over WB are quality wins, they are very marginal in that respect. Looking at Gentry's r...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

At the end of the day he is diluting local talent and will be grabbing from others. Tell me with a straight face how that is a good thing and how you are making things better? I’m not sure who you’re talking to but I never said it was a good thing. We just gave you the reasons why it was different.

Re: The Hermantown Thread

I said previously I know Scott and I will add I agree with him on 90% of what he says and does. But saying it’s ok for him to do it cause Hermantown has been doing it makes no sense. Wrong is wrong. Whether it’s pionk or anyone else. It’s not even the fact he will be diluting the talent pool and ta...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

Stella have their own feeder program or will they poach kids from other programs ala hermatown who he has been chastising? Also, will this not dilute local hockey programs even more thus contradicting his position that what hermantown does is hurting other local programs ( which they do)? Seems a l...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

I would add on the Stella Maris part of all of this: That hockey program is a long way off. The school currently has only a freshman class. Someone with better knowledge can give the exact numbers, but that freshman class has something like 15 kids. And certainly not all are boys, and very few are ...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

I apologize to you. As stated, this year's number are low. Aas far as Mr. Pionk's motives go, I should not be questioning them as no one knows what is in the mind and heart of another individual. Not knowing the man, all I have to go by is where he is coming from and what he is trying to do. But lo...

East Grand Forks 12 Warroad 9 Alexandria 8 Northfield 10 Orono 9 Hibbing 6 Detroit Lakes 2 Delano 5 Rock Ridge 4 Hermantown 15 Apparently playing AA schools by a single A team is not that unusual. Re: The Hermantown Thread

I called an acquaintance about Hermantown's current roster - how many recruits? I was told that all but one player came through Hermantown youth hockey. The one player was not 'recruited' but left a program where he did not feel comfortable. They landed in Hermantown because it was the best fit for...

Re: The Hermantown Thread

I will give you the metro argument, but Warroad/EGF get kids from other places, Mahtomedi (?) not sure but they could but getting the kids is not the point. The point is the difference in quality of programs. If Mahtomedi isn't head and shoulders above all the others in their section, then no one i...

Scott’s views are fine. Many would like to see Hermantown in AA. But Scott, you are supposed to be a smart man. Wow, Scott really hits the nail on the head here. And I appreciate the MN nice part. If you say anything you’re told to “quit whining and get better.” As if massing talent from all of the programs that are supposed to get better isn’t part of the equation. In their 15-1 drubbing of North Shore the o...

Re: Should head-to-head results be only factor in section seeding?

I thinking seeding should be a prediction of the likelihood of a team to win a tournament. I probably would have weighted a team's record more so in the past. But the game is different today. Coaches don't worry much about early season results. Sure, everybody wants to win every game, and to not ge...

Re: Coldest Rinks in MN

Minnehaha is the coldest rink in the metro area. Man, did parents bitch when we had games scheduled there! As a player I loved it once you warmed up. Fryberger has always gotten all of the press in the Twin Ports, but the old Proctor Arena was almost as cold. Anything built with sheet metal in the ...
