Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

WOM We’re going to have to agree to disagree on the changing of an association and/or school from the inside. I do agree that one should push for change or at least raise concerns when they see opportunities for improvement. However, every situation is unique and when you find yourself in a situatio...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

In the spirit of "adapting" and getting creative with solutions to compete with some of these super programs why don't more small programs follow the Rock Ridge model. They don't actually have to combine schools like that, but just for certain sports (keep the youth programs separate too). Look at ...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Every school (except yours, I guess) has a gym. Most don't have ice rinks. I don't believe you are well equipped for the future. My guess is that a few established high schools mimic Gentry. Bounced this off a couple people I trust and they concur. People can't have it both ways. Minnesota hockey c...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

WOM - good stuff. Lots there, so here we go. You ask if parents would send their kids to Gentry if there was no day ice. I can only answer for myself and incorporate the feedback I’ve heard directly from others. I, and those I’ve talked to on this exact topic, have all said they would continue to se...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Ice time during the school day is egregious imho rules or not. Whatever I guess that boat has sailed. Come on. Is it egregious for a varsity basketball player to shoot hoops during gym class? What about athletes that lift weights in gym class? Egregious? Complaining about successful disruptors has ...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Every school (except yours, I guess) has a gym. Most don't have ice rinks. That’s where the vision part of what I mentioned comes in. And it seems that you just blow by the fact that many HS kids do supplemental training with a third party during the school year. The total ice theory is a red herri...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Yes, MDE and MSHSL monitor, just like any other school, as I said. The claim earlier was that Gentry didn’t belong in the MSHSL so I was responding to that directly. Sorry I don’t have specific names of individuals, not sure that specific names of MDE and MSHSL officials is all that critical to the ...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Body: 1) The MSHSL has been active to ensure compliance based on ongoing inquiries from the public. Probably as much as any successful school, but a great deal of work and collaboration went into establishing the program. For their work, we are appreciative. 2) I’m not joking when I say those here a...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

“Furthermore, a hockey school like Gentry that recruits to get students has no business in MSHSL.” 16 words with 2 wrong assumptions and 1 erroneous conclusion. But I don’t blame you, you’re just parroting what others have said here. But your quote pretty much sums up the sentiment of many. So let’s...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Puck8, Why should I have to find proof of all of the violations? Not my job, I didn’t make up the bylaws, but I know of instances where it’s happening. Do I have recorded phone calls, no, but I know of things that happened and who was doing it, it’s common knowledge where I’m from. By all accounts ...

everyone knows that schools like EP, Edina, South, etc recruit,
You don't understand the difference between recruit and attract. Enjoy not watching.

Who is doing that monitoring, Puck8?
According to this board, all of you. There’s a never ending trail of recruiting accusations so I can only assume things are being watched intently.

So, let all of the schools that you have proof of recruiting violations continue in MSHSL, but Gentry, which you apparently have no proof of violations and is one of the, if not the most monitored schools, should be tossed. Got it.

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

Thanks, Blue. Trust me, I have no expectation that things will change in terms of attitude and perception. Facts are often swatted away like a mosquito on a summer night. We’ve lived this for 5 years and can identify with what you’ve outlined. I would not have even chimed in had it not been for the ...

Re: The Gentry Academy Thread

WOM. I appreciate the level response and you clearly get it. The main point I am making is that public schools and youth hockey associations are often the driving force behind the success of privates/charter due to the shenanigans and failures within their own structure and operations. People want w...

Re: winter state tournaments

Looks like 3000 fans will be allowed on April 1, 2, and 3. Noticeably higher than the 250. Until the MSHSL releases an update, this is nothing more than words. The Gov giving clearance does not guarantee that the MSHSL will open it up. And we all know better than to bank on them doing the right thi...

Re: winter state tournaments

The governor can relax the order and allow a higher capacity, but the MSHSL has the final say. And anyone who thinks that’s a slam dunk hasn’t been paying attention. Already seeing rumblings that they see it as a logistics challenge to go over 250. Absolutely ridiculous, but that’s who we’re dealing...

[ You must have some really good, super secret data, because all I have are the official MSHSL enrollment numbers for 19-20 and 20-21. https://old.mshsl.org/mshsl/news/csp%20Enrollments%20-%20By%20Enrollment%20-%202019-20%20and%202020-21.pdf Scroll down the PDF and it says "Gentry Academy 54" What ...

something made plain by Gentry having an incredible team with an enrollment of only 54 kids !!! Umm...Good example of how bad data that starts somewhere just carries through as fact. Probably doesn’t change the impression of those who see Gentry as an evil-doer, but enrollment is closer to 300. But...
