NP hires Brad Drazan as new head coach

1) I feel really old when head coaches around age 30 are being hired.

2) That is a tough gig in that section and being one of the smallest AA schools.

Re: Class A Tourney w/o top 3 teams

Will SCC's drop off really be that steep? I’m not as bearish on SCC as Class A Guy regarding their prospects for next season, but Cathedral will only be returning 26.7% of their regular season scoring (assuming everyone comes back). So it could be a bit of a rebuild, and there doesn’t appear to be ...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

Your comment makes me think an annual event with some New England Prep schools and top Minnesota HS teams would be fun. I know it's been done before and there are some big obstacles. Avon Old Farms, Salisbury, and Kimball Union each season facing traditional powers here like Hill-Murray, Eden Prair...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

Holy Angels had some of the best teams I've ever seen (maybe not undefeated Jefferson good). I know the coach had a huge impact on them coming on the scene, but the fact it now looks to be flash in the pan is interesting. There's plenty of talent within range to pull from, but they look to be a foo...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

As an outsider it seems like the jumpstart in many of the private schools’ success was bringing in high level coaches who stayed there a while to build the programs. Pauly (not sure when he started at Benilde but wouldn’t be surprised if it was mid-late 90’s when their success started), Trebil, the...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

I was once told - it was so long ago I can't remember by whom but I do recall it was someone whose views I trusted - that schools like Benilde and Holy Angels made a conscious decision in the late 90s/early 00s to emphasize sports more primarily for business reasons. Attracting kids who might be at...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

Growing up in the SW suburbs, it always seemed like Breck was the more successful school athletically & Blake was the one that seemed above such nonsense. Benilde rose in the mid to late 90s in terms of hockey success. It almost seems like it's kind of flipped with Blake & Breck. You probably have ...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

Stangs - yeah, I know that BP has a rink. When I said BP, I was referring to the corridor of communities along 252/65 within a radius of Columbia (NE MPLS, Fridley, Columbia Heights, BP, New Brighton). Demographic or not, any loss of indoor ice is bad for the game. Rebuilding hockey in the inner ri...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

Great stuff from the tres amigos. The surprise podcast brightened up my Sunday, and I particularly enjoyed some of the historical discussion. Two points I wanted to follow up on... 1. Tony mentioned the closure of Columbia as being the death knell for hockey in places like Columbia Heights and Brook...

Re: Goalies moving on to next level

Josh Weyandt for Chan and Will Pinney for St. Louis Park didn't get much attention because of the teams they played on but they should get a chance. Maybe Caleb Mayer as well. I stumbled across a few Chanhassen game streams this year, and Weyandt was the only reason they were competitive. You prett...

Re: Goalies moving on to next level

I’ll throw in Konrad Kausch from Duluth East. He was main reason they beat some of the top 10 teams this past season. He can also play the puck like a 3rd D man Interesting perspective, since he was buried on JV for the past few years. While Randolph played musical chairs with goalies, Kausch didn’...

Goalies moving on to next level

I know we had a thread like this last year, and with things being slow I thought it would be worthwhile to kick off the speculation as to which goaltenders will land on junior team rosters this fall (assuming we have a season). Bearing in mind that I know little about goalie evaluation, I would thin...

Out of the 1046 classified deaths as to underlying causes in NY thus far 1.72% did not have one or more of Diabetes, Lung Disease, Cancer, Immunodeficiency, Heart Disease, Hypertension, Asthma, Kidney Disease and GI/Liver Disease. The Pioneers have also had some outstanding players from the Park-Cottage Grove system. Just recently Pierre, Palodichuk, and Helgeson have all come from there. Didn't Helgeson come from Roseau? And then the family lived in Lake Elmo? I remember that now, you’re absolutely correct. Sorry for the ba...

Re: Class A Tourney w/o top 3 teams

Warroad finished fourth, but would most likely romp through this field. In that respect I would think it would be less entertaining, though Wednesday games would be more competitive. Here’s a shot at seeding: 1. Warroad 2. Delano 3. Denfeld 4. Alexandria 5. Monticello I could see an argument for Del...

Re: Role of the Minnesota State High School League

No open enrollment? Talk about a non-starter. Pretty sure Minnesota is the first state to allow. You can also add the idea of preventing students from attending private schools in a different community. I’m a bit biased given that I am a private school alumnus, but the public schools in my communit...

Re: Section 6A 2019-20

Agree on the Otters. To me they were the team that improved the most during the year this year. It’s pretty amazing that FF went from being destroyed by Sartell 10-0 in early December to slashing the Sabres 7-2 just over a month later. The Otters really came on strong once the calendar turned to 20...

Elite Prospects should not be used as a source for when players will enter college. I understand the timing on when to bring kids in is fluid. Is Heisenberg the best source? That's where I'd look. Heisenberg just lists commitments by birth year, and unfortunately doesn’t list projected enrollment. ...

Will he play juniors first or is he another Sammy Walker? Strobel is listed as a 20-21 commit, so presumably a season of juniors. Motzko has stressed that he wants the Gophers to be older, so that would make sense. Isn't 20-21 this coming Fall? Ha, I’m getting so old that I don’t even realize what ...
