Re: Games January 14 2021

East-Denfeld was a good, entertaining start to the year. Both teams have some work to do in back but showed some good creativity at times. The Hounds has good control in the first period and in the OT; it was more even in the 2nd and 3rd. Great talent up front for Denfeld and Snyder was solid in ne...

Rosters 2020-21

Is the high school league going to post roster information on their new website? Guessing we should see varsity rosters start to come out towards the end of the week.

Re: Jan 14th or 16th Start Date?

Well here is some info.. Looks like Jan 14th games can start. Nothing about tournaments in there but all players have to wear masks while practicing and playing in game. Not sure how I feel about that. https://www.twincities.com/2020/12/28/minnesota-youth-sports-can-resume-games-and-scrimmages-jan-...

WM- The place where you pulled that number 43,557 from is for weekending dates of 2/1/2020 through 12/12/2020. I took the full year starting with week ending date 1/4/2020 by pulling up the actual week by week spreadsheet. You are short a month on your count. Take a look at the header before scrolli...

Re: covid and MH

Karl, Ive been looking at a couple of the links you sent me a couple pages back in the thread. Minnesota has consistently run about 44000-45000 deaths from all causes in recent years as i mentioned above So on a 10 month basis, that would be roughly 37100 through October. I had wondered whether the...

Think the better barometer is rolling 7 day average for positivity rate. South Dakota 42.8% Iowa 36.1% Wisconsin 12.2% Minnesota 9.1% North Dakota 8.4% Data is from John Hopkins, but article is here.....https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/public-health/states-ranked-by-covid-19-test-positivity-rat...

Re: Early Christmas Present: Boys State Hockey Tournament (Meeting Dec 3rd)

Does anyone honestly think the state will lift the restrictions until after the holidays? I am one of those that think they should have kept the youth sports going through all of this, but at this point I am not sure I would blame them if they said let's open everything back up on January 2nd instea...

Re: Early Christmas Present: Boys State Hockey Tournament (Meeting Dec 3rd)

Seems like a no brainer they would keep everything shut down through the 1st of the year. Start winter sports up then, with games starting around 12th-15th. Any potential Covid cases from the holiday gatherings should be taken care of before then. Could have section finals completed by Thursday, Apr...

Thanks. I was familiar with that site. I was thinking of being able to view something like old newspapers from Roseau/Warroad to view the different accounts of game from their hometown newspaper. Off the top of my head, would also like to look at old newspapers from I Falls, Rapids, Hibbing, Virgini...

Re: something fun

Does anyone know of any websites where you could pull old newspaper articles from the 60s, 70s, 80s? I remembering going to the library back in junior high and having to pull articles from microfilm, but I would assume there are websites out there where you can search through old newspapers that hav...

WM- The majority of privately run nursing homes, at least in rural areas, are staffed by people making close to minimum wage. You can make more money working at Target or Menards. Don't believe me? Google wages for CNA's or nursing home workers. $10.50 to start at a place in Hibbing right now. We k...

Re: covid and MH

For the record, I believe the kids should be playing sports as well. No proof, but I would bet any COVID related spread is coming from the parents hanging out before the games. Do whatever needs to be done, including keeping parents out of the arenas, to make this work.

Doesn't help the cause to keep things open when you get parents like this making it all about themselves.

Re: covid and MH

The Great Doctor Fauci himself has suggested PCR above 35 is basically useless, and going to give false positives. Yet we fail to have a standard that mandates 35 or below. So yes, false positives are going to impact the case numbers. And the decision makers are keenly focused on case numbers (but ...

Re: covid and MH

Keep in mind a standardized PCR is going to detect if you've EVER had the antibody in your system so there are going to be false positives with the numbers you are seeing everyday, this is why many people are asymptomatic. No standard has been set at what constitutes a false positive but generally ...

Re: Early Departures 2020-2021

USA hockey Tier 3 is playing 40-50 game schedule. The Rochester Grizzlies play 8 games in October and have 8 scheduled in November so far. Good gracious why play 18 games in high school when you can 50 in Tier 3? My initial response was going to be that the Tier 3 has legal adults (18+) playing, bu...

Re: MSHSL Oct 1st Meeting (Boys Hockey Season Fate)

To me, this is essentially a gap season for the AA and few A programs with their single sport hockey athletes and the majority of Class A teams will take a pass. Not saying I have an issue with what the coaches are proposing, but most class A programs rely on multi-sport athletes to field their team...

I believe most of the range (Grand Rapids to Ely) is either on hybrid or going that way next week. Numbers had been pretty good up here through the end of August. Must have been all the 612ers that came up for Labor Day :D

Re: Guess : Total Early Departures for 2020-21

I would put in somewhere in the 15 to 25 range. The high end players will always be able to find a spot. Issue is with several teams in the USHL and NAHL going dark for the year, it took away a lot of spots. Plus you have the issue of no canadiens (unless they have dual citizenship) playing in the U...
