Re: 1/14 game results

Yeah, Chisago beating Breck isn't an upset based on the rosters. The 5A final will be most interesting.

Stillwater 8 - Forest Lake 1 was a bit of a surprise, but the Ponies have been recruiting well and keeping their stars away from private schools. The 4AA final will be a doozy this year.

Re: AA Preseason Rankings

I have a feeling the commitment landscape is going to be a lot more unsettled over the next three years then these kids may have been told when they committed in 8th grade. There will be a lot of grad transfers filling roster spots over the next few years at schools like Wisconsin and Minnesota, th...

Re: AA Preseason Rankings

Could be. But Blake's new coaches will probably re-build some interest, and the school will always be a top consideration for families that emphasize a top education. Think about this - Edina, one of the best public schools in Minnesota, was only able to get 1 of 3 verbally committed girls hockey p...

Re: AA Preseason Rankings

Brecks run is over, they might make it to state but it won’t be the same circus they came with last year. The privates are having a tough time with getting the higher end players excluding HF. That's an interesting development to watch going forward. For example, Blake's roster has no freshmen and ...

Re: AA Preseason Rankings

Uh, I don't believe they award Ms. Hockey to juniors. How about Guilday? From the Breakdown Sports 2020-21 annual girls' hockey digest for Jungels: "Question: Can you tell us one unusual thing about yourself that others may not know? Answer: I am planning to accelerate." Confirming what many folks ...

Re: AA Preseason Rankings

My thoughts. I think the final four this year will be Andover, Edina, Tonka, and Roseau, with Andover repeating. The case for Breck to move up to AA becomes weaker after Couser, Zumwinkle and the older Lindsay sister graduate this May. I don't think it's out of bounds to suggest Chisago, Gentry and ...

Re: Scoring lost/returning: Class AA

Was not taking a “direct shot” at anyone. I never spent any time looking at class A. Just pointing out a fact that after having followed this stuff for several years, the numbers that get posted are not always accurate. Now I think we can all agree that the numbers that get posted on that site need...

Just off the top of my head while laying on the beach in hot old Mexico:

1 Hermantown
2 east Grand Forks
3 warroad
4 Mahtomedi
5 Delano
6 robbinsadale
7 Little falls
8 Denfeld
9 thief river
10 alexandria
Gentry should probably be 2 or 3 on this list.

Re: Early Christmas Present: Boys State Hockey Tournament (Meeting Dec 3rd)

Well looks like that MN hockey info was wrong. Won’t be starting till Jan 4th. Found this on Twitter this morning from Blois Olson. 1. A moderate loosening of family gathering guidance; 2. Gyms can open at 25 percent; 3. Restaurants and bars are closed for another 3 weeks INDOORS; 4. Sports resume ...

Maybe it means everyone got their flu shots this year.

Numbers are not lying, 5600 infections today! It will be more than 2 weeks before we will be on the ice. A large part of the problem can put aside the idea that kids are suffering during all of this. My skater's friends are constantly calling and sending messages to set up get togethers, sleepovers...

In all seriousness, maybe workers in youth hockey rinks and basketball arenas should be considered essential personnel entitled to early access to the vaccine, if supplies exist? Most kids are asymptomatic. Their parents can stay home. But the referees, rink workers, etc. are absolutely needed for t...

Re: Early Christmas Present: Boys State Hockey Tournament (Meeting Dec 3rd)

I think Monday Jan 4th would be the best. Get through the holidays. Give teams 2 full weeks for tryouts and practice. The model shows if the start is 1/4 or 1/18 the season will be 13 or 11 weeks and go till the 1st weekend in April. Eh, I'd give it to January 11. The idea of kids, families, etc. m...

Re: Light at the end of the tunnel?

Surely news to be optimistic about. My hope is that there is a buffer between Christmas and the start of practice. Maybe January 11th is reasonable? The idea of kids going to rinks and then to their families over the holidays is a bit concerning. One more surge of infections in January and the winte...

Kids play organized sports almost 52 weeks a year, and we're worried a four week pause is going to affect their physical and mental health? That's not worth responding to. If anything, kids are over-programmed in the modern world. I'll listen when these same parents file lawsuits (like the #letthemp...

The only burden the Governor really needs to meet is: does this restriction inure to the health, safety and welfare of Minnesotans? If so, he can do it. The problem is, none of those on the “it’s no big deal”/“just open it up”/“kids hardly ever have bad outcomes or die from this” side of the debate ever acknowledge or are willing/able to provide real facts from legitimate experts to support their positions/opinions. I’ve said a number of times now ...

So you paid for 10 games. $21 per game. You played 7 games. $30 per game. The league provided a service. Refunds would be difficult. They may have encountered unforeseen costs, or they will be able to charge a little less for a future program. Frankly, the rate at which they put this whole league t...

My guess - a truncated season that starts around January 10 to allow for tryouts and a "preseason." Season ends on 3/20 with some sort of Section tournament, so the spring track / lacrosse seasons can begin end of March. If the previous guidance holds limiting the teams to 2 games a week, that would...
