Edina Down and Out?
So, if I understand it correctly, Edina has lost Benny Walker, Louie Nanne, Collin Munson, and Jack Walker, all to higher levels of hockey. On top of this, Tyler Nanne has a broken back and Matt Dulas has another concussion. With only two solid returning players, Reno and Nelson, does Edina have any...

Where did all the good teams go?
This was such a good tourney last year. U12's and U16's look good, but what happened to U14's? Most noticeable is that Os and Ice Cats went missing. Not much competition for the Ice Edge team in this group.

Referees deciding games
I know this is an old topic, but it has become worse in the weeks since the Jablonski hit. Referees are all over the board with these calls. These kids don't know what to do on the ice, because they are never sure what type of referee they are going to get. The bottom line is that the kids need to b...

Championship Game
Two amazing teams, indeed. The 4th overtime w/o goalies, definitely should be changed to a shoot out format in the future. The deciding factor for the game was winning the faceoff, maintaning posession and control, and making the goal "inside the blueline" as the teams were directed. Long ...

Let's stick to the facts
The USA Hockey rule states: "Beginning in the 2011-12 season, legal body checking in games will begin at the Bantam age level". Based on conversations I have heard, checking will still be used in practices and is allowed in scrimmages. My understanding from several coaches is that they pla...

Clash Invitational
The best part of the Clash was the fact that it was an Invitational. Too many of these Girls tournaments are Open, with coaches putting their kids in at levels where they are not competitive. Almost all of the games were won/lost by 1-2 points. The teams that were not at the same level were noticeab...

Selects has gotten worse each year due to the scheduling conflicts with Spring Break. Many families are not willing to give up their vacation for yet another hockey tournament. At least the girls still get some of the top talent, the boys have very little. The other issue that the same Dad's coach e...

At the end of the day, the girls programs in many associations will suffer, and some will see no change. There have been three girls who have played PeeWee's in Edina in the past four years that I am aware of. Two are now in High School, and one is playing currently. Many more played Squirts, but le...

Obviously you misunderstood my statement. My point is simple: Edina plays well in most situations, but cracks under pressure, as seen in every tournament, including Districts. They did not deserve to win, CCH and TKA outplayed them. Now they will fall to Centennial unless they can find a way to sett...

Edina U12A's
Thank goodness they finally pulled out a Win. Those girls have struggled all year in the Big Games. Is it the pressure that holds them back? It is unfortunate, as the 1st place seed in D6 should have been theirs. Now, to face Centennial in the first round of Regions is going to be tough!

Size Matters!
PeeWee's is a great age to learn checking. The kids are smaller and weigh less. The difference in size at the Bantam level is too different, and more kids would get hurt. I hate to think that a kid 6'0 ft tall and 180 lbs might be learning to check for the first time against a 4'6" kid who bare...
