Re: MSHSL moves football to spring

What amuses me is that all of these leagues, pro & college, all a long they've been like, "Yeah, we're going full steam ahead." Even after spring training was cancelled, one Twins exec less than two weeks before the opener sounded 100% certain the season would start on time. There's never any holdin...

Re: 20-21 schedules

Somehow Hill's home/away mix got way out of balance. I wonder if the GR change is an effort to address that.

Re: Anyone have clout with the MSHSL or Channel 45?

If memory serves, the first tournament game ever broadcast was the 1969 final. I'd like to see that, mostly because I'd like to see the production values.

Re: Turning Points

Here are my thoughts on seeding: Einstein said, "Not everything that can be counted counts; not everything that counts can be counted." There is a desire on the part of some to have one gold standard metric, a magic formula that "get's it right" every time, without any bias. That doesn't exist, & ne...

Charlie is a very impressive guy.

I imagine it will be difficult for both Charlie & his brother when the time comes, as it must, for Charlie to leave his home.

Re: 2010 Tourney in Retrospect

I'm surprised, I have absolutely no recollection of Hill drawing DE in the quarterfinals. I'm sure it's because of the epic semifinal that followed. One thing I recall is something the Tonka coach said. He said that they didn't let the kids sleep too late on Saturday morning, because they "didn't wa...

Curious why just Privates? Public gets transfers too.....Just wondering
Because they're blind to public school transfers. They love this myth of "these kids have been playing together since they were 7 y/o."

Seems like a lot of guys would love to see the small school tournament become even more mediocre.
Since when does parity=mediocrity?
When parity is the result of the best teams being removed from the competition.

2019-20 Pioneers went 3-5-2 over a month into mid-January and then played better than any other team the rest of the way en route to the state title. The team I witnessed Hermantown manhandling at Aldrich, in a game they literally did nothing...to convincing AA Champs, a gigantic turn around in a s...

Its not that so much as we'd rather see the top teams be in Class AA
That's a distinction without a difference.

Being a Hill fan, I followed Burnsville closely in the 80's. Coach Tom Oseiki had an interview, where he mentioned that in "82 his team was surprised to make it to the section final, where they lost. But the next year, they not only expected to make the final, they expected to win the final. Which t...

January 11th, 2014 Edina (12-3) at Hill-Murray (10-2). The Hornets had won a matchup between these two teams just two weeks earlier in the Schwan Cup Finals. The way this game looked, that may as well have been ancient history. The Pioneers skated circles around the Hornets, who looked slow, disint...

These could be turning points in a single season, turning points for a program as a whole, or events that caused the entire state landscape to change. I'll start with a couple season-turning points for my Edina Hornets. Apologies in advance, blueblood :) . February 11th, 2010 Minnetonka at Edina. T...

A very interesting year for sure, even if Lleyton Roed returns. We know coach wasn't successful coaching loaded teams throughout his time at WBL. Lets hope he can coach bare teams, as that is the direction WBL will be taking for the foreseeable future. Depends on how you define foreseeable future. ...

East Side Pioneer Guy: Steve Magnuson of Anoka played his senior of 1991 at Anoka. He did not leave for juniors. He played his freshmen year for the Gophers in 1991-92. Re: Greatest Games That Never Were

Fun story, ESPG. Anoka was the top seed in the metro bracket of Region 2 that year, and they did beat East by a goal in their regular season meeting, so they were almost certainly the favorites there. Interestingly enough, I was a resident of Anoka at that time, though I was also one, so I think I ...

1991 State Final HM vs. Anoka In 1991, Hill & Anoka were in the same conference, the Twin Cities Federation, one of the greatest hockey conferences this state has seen. Oh man, that 2006 final. Hill up 3-0, dominating the game, running time in sight. Right after the third goal, Sagar calls time out. We're like, "What???" Then, right off the face off, Grun gets the puck, skates I think just inside the blue line, rips it past the Hill goalie, just a rocket. The rest ...
