shots
The guys running the scoreboard probably have the poorest seats in the house to count shots by. Sitting at ice level, screened by a linesman much of the game. I would hope that they do the best they can and are impartial, but they do have the poorest angle to do this.

Re: roseau tries
My anti USA hockey rant....

First off, years ago MAHA ran youth hockey with a very hands off policy, each local assoc. was pretty much left to itself, other than certifying referees and setting up districts they didn't do a whole lot. Compare that to now; USA hockey puts a fee on every play...

Re: Northern Teams, Metro Teams, Private Teams
JLS, you made some great points, I'have got a couple to add.

Back in '84 when the change to red line icing was made, (a good change) only three smaller schools have advanced to the championship game. Used to be if you had one good line you kept them out to score and used your other line to du...

Re: best program
After much thinking, I rate the greatest programs this way:

1)Roseau, the shear number and quality of appearances along with the longevity of the program make it number 1.

2)South St. Paul, although they haven't one the big one, through the years they have been consistently winning. Wh...

Re: 3
Have any of you seen much JR A hockey? It's really not that great. It fills the void that was created when Division 1 college teams dropped their JV programs. The difference is when you played JV it used up eligibility time where as the JR's don't. My guess is that the ratios of kids playing JR A ho...

jr a
How many of the current Gophers are former USHL kids?

What is the advantage of playing JR A?

It's NOT added games for development. Adding more games is not helping as much as adding 2 years of growth to kids, no adults. Playing 25 year olds against 20 year olds is the advantage. Would...

Re: Noel Jenke
That would be him, I was just thinking of great athletes who also played hockey. Where did you you get those stats? I've been searching, heck I can find anyone who ever wrestled at Northern Iowa, but finding him sure turned out to be a chore.

Thanks for the info.

My brother, who played...

Videoscout, thanks for the tip, the U of M website is horse doo-doo for researching anything.

Anyway, while maybe not the best high school hockey player, possibly the best Minnesota athlete who excelled at hockey could easily be Noel Jenke from Owatonna.

He played football, hockey, and...

Re: Best Player
Videoscout, or anyone else who might know, Back in the late 50's or early 60's, there was a guy from Owatonna he didn't play hockey there because there wasn't any, so he played basketball. After high school he went to the U of M on a hockey scholarship and also lettered in Football and Baseball. I c...

Re: Gene Sack
My dad taught, and coached with Gene Sack in the late 60's and early 70's. He would go down to Arizona every spring to see him, he had Leukemia and had been very sick for a couple of years. In and out, mostly in, the hospital for a while. He died on Feb. 20.
