Re: Darkhorse teams for 2020-2021

I am thinking it is Minneapolis North since we will appoint a winner. Hill Murray should also vacate all Championships. James Hill was clearly a racist.... “give me enough Swedes, snuff, and whiskey and I’ll build a railroad through hell”. I am also fairly certain Catholics killed Muslims during th...

Re: Transfers 2020-21

East Siders are unusually quiet . Must be some drama brewing somewhere ? Who will I be seeing at Aldrich Arena for 4 AA final at end of next Feb? And what surprises on the rosters ? We're still reveling in getting a title back to the good side of town. And I come here for transfer news, so evidentl...

Re: the Player to be Named Later

I've got more information on Fechko to the Hornets. This closes out the Hankinson deal from 2016 when Edina GM Terwilliger moved the forward for future considerations. Rahn had 4 years to send back a "Grade I" player (defined as Elite Leaguer, Natty Camp kid, or Div I verbal) with at least two year...

Re: Will there be high school hockey for 2020-2021?

Can someone remind me who the last crowned Minnesota State Champion in any sport is?

:D 8)

It seems likely there will be hockey this year. Maybe just more of it will be web cast for us socially distant (by 2000 miles) folks...

Re: Anyone have clout with the MSHSL or Channel 45?

I brought a very similar topic up a few weeks ago: http://www.ushsho.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=37942 Not exactly sure why it's so difficult to find a way to see these games. Makes sense that if folks in Minnesota would watch old NCAA basketball/hockey, NFL, NBA, NHL or MLB games, they would a...

Re: BHS Hockey Podcast - Turning Points

As an outsider it seems like the jumpstart in many of the private schools’ success was bringing in high level coaches who stayed there a while to build the programs. Pauly (not sure when he started at Benilde but wouldn’t be surprised if it was mid-late 90’s when their success started), Trebil, the...

Re: 1996: Duluth East/Apple Valley

It also was fun because it was the upstart program who's best player had his dad as coach, which happens around the state from time to time and those teams reach new heights, against a power at the time that was taking the reigns from Jefferson as the team to beat. Spehar was already a legend. And o...

Re: Recruiting 2020-21 Season

I think there's a bit of hyperbole with this topic happening here. I don't like seeing transfers as much as anyone and thought what EP did this year was pretty gross given they have one of the largest enrollments in the state, but for people to act like community based hockey is gone is laughable. ...

Karl, from one wordsmith to another, your wrap up covers the rich tapestry that is the state tournament. I came of age during the heyday of the tournament, and I'm pleased to find that it has survived two classes far better than I thought it would. I fondly recall meeting Karl some years back at an...

The 1980 final with Grand Rapids and Hill Murray should be up there too. Hill was undefeated going into the final and lost 2-1, despite outshooting Rapids 32-16.
To be honest, it was one of those upsets that still keeps a guy up at night. #-o

His uncle & dad, Mark & Mike, went to WI. They wanted to play together, and the Gophs would only take Mark. I remember that. I can't recall if they had offers going into the tourney or not. But I recall Gophers only offered Mark. I think this is a smart move by Motzko. Because Charlie is the type o...

I’m going to butcher this, and perhaps someone with a better recollection can tell it more accurately. 2010-2011 season, MN Hockey Hub did a four part series titled Becoming a Pioneer . I remember thinking that was a really cool, in-depth look at a program (and something they should do every year w...

Well what's funny is there's two sets of posters here. The more mature crowd who can have a civil discussion about teams and not go ranting and then we get the occasional knuckle head boys who are still in high school and they have to try and "mark" the forum everywhere they go. Its funny how easy i...

Sparlimb, How many players from that 1982 NSP team went on to.play Division 1? I believe it was 4.

1988 Edina a #4 seed in section knocks off an undefeated Warroad team in double OT in the semi's and defeats Hill Murray for #8 in 88! Bonus Point. ChrisK can back me up because he went and looked. Warroad scored the tying goal (I think in the 3rd) to make it 1-1 and the play was 20 feet off sides....

2012 had upsets in all 4 qfinals . And for that reason and others was one of my most enjoyable tournaments ever (Spar-There was an unheard of Pio that year - I think his name was Jake Guentzel? Re: Biggest Tourney upsets

The 2000s had quite a few more upsets compared to the teens. GR over EP has to be in the mix although, I feel like at the time we all know GR had the talent that they could pull it off. Definitely, one of the top games of the decade. So much fun! You could probably say every game from the section s...

Anoka over Holy Angels. Although to be honest, no one that watched the game thought it was an upset after the game. Anoka came out that tournament and flew up and down the ice and was clearly the best team. But yes, it was a big upset at the time. And why oh why do I not remember Roseville making a...
