My daughter played at Ridder as freshman and at X when she was senior; she preferred Ridder for all reasons previously mentioned. She also said to her not really important where the State was held. Also mentioned that the section games to get to tourney were more fun because they upset a couple team...

Rule Changes

First time on this forum. So, these subjects have probably already been covered. First, why are players penalized two minutes for an infraction in a twelve minute stop time or 15 min run time period? At the college level, a two minute penalty equals ten percent of the period. A corresponding penalty...

The players should be taught to ALWAYS expect contact; legal or illegal. Not enough to improve core strength, etc. The attitude should be that they will always get hit and to never let their guard down.

[quote] "Apparently Schattuck is serious abotu making their girls program as well known and respected as it's boys program."

Judging by SSM's success in national tourneys and the number of D1 players to come out of SSM, I would say the girls program is as well respected as the boys program.

Re: SSM. Many of the athletes get financial aid. If SSM wants you, they will make it possible to attend. One of our neighbors was recruited by SSM's soccer coach. At the time they were interested in establishing a powerhouse soccer program, similar to the hockey program. She would have been able to ...

I was in Rosemount the other day and had heard about The Pond and decided to drop in and see what its about. The rink is quite a bit smaller; not sure the exact dimensions. There was a 3 v 3 squirt game in progress. There are no offsides; no icing. There was one ref; he only called obvious penalties...

Homer. I think it is definitely worthwhile going through these try-outs. It gives you and the player a much better idea of where she stands when competing with better players. Youth hockey and HS hockey are not a realistic yardstick when trying to evaluate talent. The best test is going against the ...

The only place that I have observed where selfish play is not rewarded is in Lake Placid where the National Teams are selected. For these tryouts, the coaches are looking for the "right players." And judging by the results of the last couple world tournaments, they have chosen the right pl...

The game that I was referring to was when the 88's were seniors. This team was called the Raptors or something similar. It was a B&A team. The type of team I am referring to starts in October and plays together through March. This type of team would compete against teams like SSM. Obvously, it w...

Regarding showcasing MN HS girls at the national level; I think we would see the same result as a couple of years ago when SSM played a team of HS All-State players. SSM would easily prevail and go onto the National Tournament. I think the only way that a group of top MN players could defeat a team ...

I think the ridiculous hype given Edina was a problem. If they play Moorhead 10 times, they probably win 8. But any one game can be won by the underdog. Look at the MN Wild. They just beat San Jose. There is even more of a talent discrepancy with the Wild and Sharks. Hockey is about the only sport w...

If the powers at be wanted to make the tournament interesting and all-inclusive, they could throw all 16 teams in one big tourney and seed the top eight. Then you would have the possibility of a "Cinderella" team winning the whole thing. But it probably would be "politically incorrect...

I blame the loss on Lapanta; if you listened to him all year, you would think that Edina belonged in the NHL. He's probably taking the loss harder than anyone.

Many good points. But the overriding theme regarding MN players is great individual players and not so good at the team game. Again, the disadvantage is that players are going from HS (individual play rewarded/encouraged) to Off-season teams (individual play may or may not be stressed) to developmen...
